Before i knew better I was using a FF# on UA and United, very quickly i learned that was a bad idea and now i have 5.2k miles on UA that i would like to transfer to United; which i subsequently found out I cannot do.

However (the link below) this article states
Miles earned for flights on either airline count toward elite status in either program.

If this quote is true, then I wouldnt need to transfer my miles and I dont lose anything.

Can anyone chime in on this subject, many thanks.

I believe you mean US and United. As far as I know, there is no way to transfer miles from one program to the other. As far as the quote goes, that means if you fly a bunch of united flights but credit them to your dividend miles account, they still count towards elite qualification in the dividend miles program.

OP - can I suggest you look at this page from the Star Alliance website http://www.staralliance.com/en/benefits/
It explains that you can earn miles (and status) on all member airlines.
And as the other poster has explained, you can't transfer your miles between UA and US.

Ive read the page and every time I get a different idea on what is possible and what isn't. To clarify, is it saying my

US Air miles + United miles = all miles going towards ONE program

OR

United FF# on ANY *A airline can be used to accrue miles

If its the first, awesome, thats not what i expected, if its the 2nd, then yeah, hence why i would love to transfer over my miles because them sitting in my Us Air account is useless.

I do, thank you for the clarification, all these acronyms and not a brain for them to go into.
