West - Steakhouse suggestions in Denver

Im going to Denver May 16 to 18 for Red Greens Wit and Wisdom tour. I like a good steak...any suggestions for a good place in downtown Denver?

I was just there and Elway's was surprisingly good. The bone in filet was pretty much crowd pleaser, but everything was good.

Not a big fan of Elway's but I know many people who love it. My favorite in downtown is Capitol Grill. I also like the Denver Chophouse for a little more casual vibe.

Capitol Grille fancy, formal, excellent.
I've had a few good meals at Brook's.

Also, a wonderful filet in a place you might not expect it is at Yia Yias, a bit east of I-25 and Bellevue.

Really? My office is right there and so I've eaten there dozens of times and have never had a good meal. I know many people love it but I'm not one of them.

I've never eaten there for lunch, only for dinner. The filet is excellent. And yes, many people love it.

Not that it seems to come up in Westword's Best Of (or that I'd personally nominate it), but I'm surprised to not see Buckhorn listed.

I thought I had heard that it had closed. My former next door neighbor liked going there (though more for the ambience vs the food). They also liked the Fort in Morrison.

Not in Downtown, but my favorite Denver area steakhouse is Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House in Greenwood Village (DTC), after that I like Sullivan's, The Capital Grille and while not a prime steakhouse, I love the old Denver feel of Bastien's.

Isn't noted on their website, but I guess they could've closed up for remodeling or something. The Fort was always fun with out of state folks, but I'm not sure the food (while not terrible, from what I remember) holds up to the better spots downtown.

Mrs. Swede and I go there for Sunday brunch every once in a while. We like it.

The one issue... confession time... I don't drive and NEVER learned to drive. My plan is to take the bus in from the airport to downtown. Still deciding between Westin and Sheraton

I have reservations at Denver Chophouse and THe Palm since it's at the Westin. I could not get Elways but may call to ask if I can do a walk in... I'll be alone and eat the bar.

There is one place I was too in downtown... they also serve Elllk and buffalo and the food was among the best I ever had. My concern is time... have to be at the PARAMONT Theatre by 7P for Red Green,

Walking into Elways and eating at the bar usually isn't a problem. The downtown location has a oyster bar. The Cherry Creek location has a larger bar. As long as it isn't a Wednesday, you should be able to walk in. On Wednesday, they have a band outside and the bar can get packed.

I agree the bar at Elways should be doable. The bus can take awhile (if I remember right). The cab is a set rate of $55 plus like a $2.50 fee (I think). Just an option.

I stayed at the Westin. It was ok. Spent more time at the bar there.
