I've stayed here before. We used MegaBonus nights, as it's the only Marriott Cat 1-4 in the islands. Not a bad place -- the staff was friendly. Try to get a room on the top floor as it has vaulted ceilings.
The location is pretty good if you're a family, as there are shops and restaurants nearby, so you aren't 'stuck'.

I agree that the common areas of the hotel have gone through a nice renovation and it really is something to see nothing but ocean. We stayed in Feb 2012 using earned free night certs as it was a category 4 then, now a 5. Bathrooms are very small and it's nothing fancy, just a nice place to add on to the beginning or end of a vacation leg. No resort fee but a $15 parking fee/night. Very convenient to the airport.
I could really use some help re: how to get lnf approval with aavacations. I have been denied repeatedly for my anaheim marriott suites vaca 6/29-7/04 king suite.
How far into the aavacations booking process do you go when submitting an internet link on your claim? I have been denied without a clear explanation as to why. I would like to book this courtyard as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

you should be looking for a rate of about $91.27 on aavacations. That will give you the $68 after the match and extra 25% off from marriott's BRG
Hope that helps.

I stayed at the hotel in Mid March.
The hotel is fine.
Summer is the lighter season with the north shore being the most popular part of the island because the the water is calm and its the dry season there.
The garden view vs ocean view means you dont view the ocean.
It you are a rewards member they likely will upgrade you to an ocean view room.
The hotel is 4 buildings....3 forms a quad with the ocean and beach as the fourth. Then there is an additional building which would close the quad but its shifted to the left so half that building has an ocean view.
The beach os small...its still a beach and the place has a pool and tennis court.
drivewise you are about a half hour from Poipu and about a half 25 minutes from princeville. Then its about an hrs drive to get to the far west of the island and into the canyon.
Naturally because of its East facing beach you cant watch the sunset.
As fae as watching the sunset it depends on when in July/August you are going to travel. In early July the sunset will be on the north shore (not the south shore). During July/August it transitions to the South and by the end of August the sunset is along the south shore again.

Thanks for the detailed review. There are many comments on musty smell and outdated rooms on tripadvisor, how did you find the bed and room?
It could be that I got a good room.
I dont look at syle of rooms much in terms of wall paintings et all. The TV was new.
I do look at cleanliness and it was fine.
It also could be the building I was staying in had been refurbished. I stayed in the building off to the side.
I also look at it from what the price of the place is. This hotel is ranges from around $90-$140. For the price it was what Id expect from a courtyard. They fee they do have is a parking fee of about $15. There is no activity fee.
the nights I stayed there I used the free night vouchers I earned. It is a cat 4 so you can use the vouchers there. They recently opened a fairfield on Maui that will be a cat 4 and there is a courtyard on the big island that is a cat 4.
Since I live on the west coast flying to hawaii can be relatively cheaper. I can build up free nights and then use them.
When I was there I also stayed at the Outrigger Plantation in Poipu. That was a nice place. It is close to a bunch of shos and restaurants and Poipu beach/state park is a short walk. The state park has a small parking lot. The room rate I got was around $170/night. That is a decent deal for that area given the other hotels are $200+/night plus various parking and activity fees. the outrigger didnt have thise fees. The rooms there are more of a condo type where you have a separate bedroom and kitchen. There is a dinner place on the grounds (didnt eat there) and a brekfast/lunch place across the street. Across the street there is a shopping center with a bunch of shops, some places to eat, and a starbucks.
The part of Kapa'a that this hotel is in is generally older construction. You will find the cheaper hotels and motels here than elsewhere on the island.

They've got it for $106 (+ 14 taxes and fees) a night for my dates in early December, which is around $35 a night less than Marriott's website.
If I can't pick off the Sheraton in Poipu for $125 or less (plus $25/nt resort fee) via PL or HW, this will be my fallback position - but I've seen the Sheraton go for $115 to $120 a night Priceline bids, but not yet for December.

I realize that the Hyatt is the nicest place on Kauai (St Regis might be it's equal, but it's in the wet part of the island and I would prefer to be dry), but, once the resort fee and taxes are factored in, that's still significantly more than I'm looking to spend, at something like $225+ /nt all in. I'd really like to keep it under $150/nt all in, and I care more about prime location and the place being at least good, than the place being the height of luxury.

You book a cancelable reservation at marriott.com (NOT aavacations.com). Then, fill out the LNF form at marriott.com providing aavacations.com link for $106 price match and 25% discount. It will still be cancelable reservation.

So I finally made it out here. I had to change my reservation (to get more stays out of my 3 nights) and re-did the BRG process. Still works just fine.
The Courtyard has certainly a bit more of a motel feel to it but it has a nicely updated lobby and nicely looking restaurants (haven't tried teh food yet). It's striking how much more 'down to earth' this place feels in a good sense compared to the Hyatt we stayed at the last 4 nights.
Parking is $14 which is a bit steep considering all the space they have here. Room is decent.
Given the Megabonus promotion the $68 stay is just fantastic value if you are out on Kauai anyways.

LNF still applies. Able to get $80/night in November. Had a question for LNF pros though.
I booked for two seperate stays, each one room for 4 people. Marriott originally tacked on an extra person fee of $50/night that AA didn't.
For one, I was able to get one LNF to waive the extra person fee, but told that the fee waiver would not appear on the reservation I currenty pull up from the Marriott website (eg the extra person fee is still there). They assured me though that it would be waived upon check-in.
The other rejected the request because they said they could not alter any additional fees.
So questions are:
1. I know the agents are inconsisted on LNF, but is one more correct than the other?
2. Should I trust that the fee will be waived or that a printout of the LNF email is sufficient when I get there?
Thanks in advance for your $0.02!

Right. The deal on the default page is $299 for three nights.

Iirc, domestic courtyards do not provide breakfast and are excluded from that requirement of elite benefits? Ime, this was one reason to avoid them

No breakfast included- did get an arrival Mai Tai ^ but never did see the breakfast spread. You might bet an UG to a higher floor with a sparkle of ocean though ;) [oh and free coffee next to checkin desk to the right]

Came back from this 2 weeks ago with a LNF rate. I have to say they treated me well as a Platinum. Booked for a pool view room, they didn't hesitate to upgrade us to a deluxe ocean view. Since this property is in the east, we saw the sunrise right from the room and heard the waves from our lanai. The mai tais on check-in were a pretty nice surprise too.
As an aside, they seemed to have a 4square check-in deal where you can get upgraded to an ocean view room (even from a garden view room).

I just returned from my 4 night stay at the adjusted rate. Great stay! Nice property, really convenient location. It's on the water and though it's not a swimmer's beach, it's quite lovely to lay back and get some sun.
The Foursquare deal does work and we got upgraded to a partial ocean view room. The postage stamp size balcony was good for a laugh but the room was clean and more than adequate.
Staff was great! I would recommend this place.

I realize this thread is for the Courtyard Kaua'i and the special rate available but don't be afraid of going on Orbitz (which seems to always beat other OTAs on package deals) and pricing a Hotel + Car Rental package. Just made a booking for the Sheraton Kaua'i with an Oceanfront room where if you subtract out the car rental at the lowest retail available (and lowest Hotwire rate available) comes out to $110/night.
The Sheraton is in a far nicer location on Poipu beach especially for the winter months.

Can you elaborate on the location differences? I'm thinking about a trip to Kaua'i in January, but have never been to HI before. Also trying to keep things within budget, but not sure what to spend more on...

Thanks to what I read here, I just booked the ocean view room at this property for Feb 2013 at a rate of $103 per night.
The standard at Marriott.com was $186, but I saw $155 at Hotelopia and submitted a BRG claim. I got an email response within 1 hour and my rate adjusted to $103.

Yeah! Cannot say I understand their math (discount seems to be more than 25%) but I didn't think it was wise to question :)

using the aa site to get the discount (though posts since that time indicate that this may not be available anymore).
I'm Marriott Gold but it was my husband's 4square check in that seems to have gotten us an upgrade to a partial ocean view. I don't know if the partial ocean view is really that big of a deal. We had a good view of the pool and could see a little ocean from the balcony, but if I wanted to see the ocean, there were plenty of better sites than the hotel and we didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel.
The hotel was fine--nothing to wow me--but met expectations. In fact the lobby area leading to the pool was nicer than I anticipated, more beach resort-like when I was anticipating something closer to the mainland Courtyards that I've stayed at for business. The pool water was freezing! If you want to swim at this time of the year, head south and swim in the ocean. There is a beach by the hotel but not for swimming and also difficult to walk on since it was so slanted, but if you want to walk, just a little north are wonderful paved trails right along the cliffs.
Also for anyone interested in snorkeling, November--at least this year--is not a good time. The water is really rough on almost all the beaches we visited. We went on a raft tour of the coast that was supposed to be combined with snorkeling but the water was too rough. There was one beach down south in Lihue that was ok for snorkeling but be careful going in since most of the entries to the water were really rocky but there is a sandy strip.

Thanks toinktoink. But slight problem. I booked a room in Jul for $221 (incl tax) and used an BRG with hotelopia rate of $126 (also incl tax). Marriott accepted but took the $126 as the base rate (excl tax) and reduce the Marriott base rate to $83. Then they add the extra adult charge and tax, getting it to $123. So just a $3 reduction from hotelopia. I'll contact Marriott again to clarify, and see what they say
