If you arrive at AMS from outside Schengen (such as from NYC) and transfer straight to non-Schengen (such as to the UK) you do not have to go through immigration or customs.

NYC-AMS-LON, you stay airside and only have security done at the gate. No customs or immigration.

Thanks guy, i flew iceland air last time for my NYC-london route and i was told the same thing but when i reached iceland airport i had to go through the hassle of immigration and customs and they gave me an headache for not having a shchengen visa although i just wanted to catch my connecting flight to UK. According to them i had entered the schengen area and need a visa for it.

What is your nationality?

Certain nationals need airside transit visas even if they are not going through Immigration. You'd better check that nationals of your country aren't on that list.

I would contact the Dutch consulate and ask them if you need a transit visa.

Maybe this page can be of help: http://www.klm.com/travel/nl_en/prepare_for_travel/travel_planning/travel_clinic/visaform.htm

You're definitely o.k. Transiting through AMS. KEF has this inane setup where those pax wanting to enter Iceland have to clear security before immigration. I didn't observe that for non-Schengen to non-Schengen but I have not transited there

Pakistani passport holders normally require a transit visa to transit in any airport in the Schengen zone - however, as you have US permanent resident status, you are exempt from this requirement in the Netherlands.

See the Transit Visa information page at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs here: http://www.minbuza.nl/en/services/consular-services/visa/visas-for-the-netherlands-schengen-visas/visa-requirements-according-to-nationality/stay-shorter-than-90-days/nationals-who-must-have-an-airport-transit-visa-atv
