CEO Dave Barger is having fun on Twitter again tonight. Among other things, he posted that PVD service is going to be happening.

Local news says that they will be at PVD before the year end.

I am happy that I can take jet blue without having to go to Boston or bdl

B6 will able startup service from PVD-RSW/LAS/FLL/MCO/TPA or SJU. I think they will have more than 10 daily RT in PVD. Let's keep fingers crossed.

One other thing. What about B6 is still considering service to ISP? What happened to ISP?

Wonder what routes,

PVD->Florida is useless to me and if I have to connect in JFK, then forget it.

The route options could potentially expand once PVD expands the runways.

Also the local papers are saying that B6 is also looking at flying out of Worcester as the airport is trying to find a replacement for the recently bankrupt Direct Air.

Also recently announced at PVD is that the new People Express Airline will also fly out of PVD starting this summer:

On service to ISP, WN dropped PVD-ISP as it was not a profitable route for them.

You'll most likely see FLL and MCO. To a lesser extent, TPA, PBI and seasonal SJU service is possible.

Is this to put pressure on Spirit?

No chance that People Express is going to be flying anywhere this summer. They are currently predicting EiS no earlier than September.

True, but he also tweeted: DavidJBarger: Thank you, @BillRandell on the 10 year IPO anniversary. As for ORH, had a very nice visit w/ Massport 10 days ago. More soon!

I wouldn't be surprised if they added one or two flights at ORH as a political maneuver to keep Massport happy, given how many gates they need at Logan.

Quite similar to the way they originally got the slots they needed at JFK back when they first started by offering flights between JFK and upstate New York, in order to win the favor of Chuck Schumer (http://schumer.senate.gov/new_website/record.cfm?id=324112).

Spirit doesn't service PVD.

I think it's somewhat strategic, protective and puts pressure on WN though. It's also not as risky for B6 as would entering PHL and competing against US on a PHL-BOS shuttle run.

B6 already has a loyal base in Boston, and by being in PVD (60 miles south), it's far enough that there is a different customer base (PVD had 6000 avg. daily seats in 2011 and B6 wants a piece of that business), but close enough being BOS area that B6 is known.

B6 would have the I-95 corridor between Boston and New York covered.

It puts pressure on WN to some extent, and B6 is probably hoping WN won't put up a serious battle on service to Florida. WN likely has other markets of higher priority including integrating all of those AirTran cities to MDW, and might back down on Florida leisure flying anyways from NE cities.

Yes, NK has flies nonstop PVD-FLL/RSW back in 2004. When NK went to PVD back in 2004 but, they were pulling out of PVD completely.

Actually, Spirit has flies nonstop PVD-FLL/RSW back in 2004 but, when they were pulling out of PVD completely due to completition against WN. When WN has previsouly announced to start nonstop FLL-PVD and when Spirit is pulling out of PVD. Because those route doesn't work out very well. It's terrible loads.

Well, WN's PVD/FLL and the seasonal PVD/RSW routes have good loads or they wouldn't be using aircraft on them. Maybe back in 2004 the loads were bad but with that said I did fly NK from PVD/FLL and it was a full aircraft.

I am curious which gate(s) B6 will be using at PVD. People's Express needs a gate or gates also. The former AA/AE gates (12 and 14 I believe) were never assigned but they are used as overflow gates at times. Then again, there is always the rumor that AA/AE will be coming back to PVD and still pay some form of rent. Interested in which routes B6 will start. If they challenge WN on their Florida routes, hopefully their times are different. More options would be nice.

Well, that gives me hope. Southwest came to PVD before getting into MHT (just a few miles north of my house). I'd love to have B6 be a good option for getting to JFK for international flights that might not be available from BOS. (Now, if they'd *also* go to IND, my mom could visit more often with an IND-JFK-MHT route - I know - pipe dream)

If Jet Blue comes to PVD by the end of the year, when would we be able to start buying tickets? I can't imagine them starting service on December 1st, as an example, and that is when they start selling tickets.

I don't know the routes but I am traveling to FLA next year and would like to try Jet Blue versus Southwest, if they fly to the same places.

Full doesn't necessarily mean profitable. :-:

I would be quite surprised to see PVD-JFK show up.

When they announce the service, which should be well in advance of when it actually starts operating.

Although JFK might not happen, I'm certain BOS would not. That said, I imagine they would like to fly somewhere where they could have connecting flights (MCO, FLL, PBI etc). At the same time I'm not so certain miroring BDL flights makes much sense. Perhaps if B6 were going to consider adding additional westward bound flights out of ORD (aside from the LGB one), then a PVD-ORD flight might make sense.

JetBlue at MHT would be great, but some of the likely routes (FLL, LAS, MCO) would directly compete with Southwest.

They can compete quite well. I priced BOS-PHX for a trip my wife might have to take. JetBlue came in at a minimum of $248 and Southwest was twice that or worse whether from BOS, PVD or MHT.

And JFK, AUS, DCA as well.
