I am an Advantage Plus member since last year.
I am trying to make a reservation online for Mercure Queenstown Resort (New Zealand) for 2 July. What I noticed is that the Advantage Plus members rate is only NZD$3.1 below the general available rate ($116.10 vs $119.20 per night)
Shouldn't Advantage plus member get at least 10% discount on the best available rate?
Update 2012-04-27: Issue resolved with contacting Advantage Plus and manager of Mercure Queestown. I will only be paying $107.28 per night~~~

Best available rate is 149 NZD. The 119.20 NZD rate is a "Flash promotion" rate. BAR isn't the lowest rate available, it's the lowest cancelable, non-advance purchase rate.

Thanks for your input, but it seems like the 10% discount was applied to the public-available "Hot deals - no change, no cancellation - see conditions" rate of $129 (129 * 0.9 = 116.1)
And if you look closer, there are 3 rates publicly available: "Take 20% Off" - $119.2, "Hot deals" - $129, and "Unrestricted" - $149. And Advantage Plus members has a 10% discount option on the last two rates (called "Members' Hot Deals" and "Members' Rate"), just not the first...
hmm...

What makes it even worst is that the Advantage Plus members rate is not even the lowest for "Superior 2 Double Beds Lake view".
Members' Hot Deals - $150.30 vs Take 20% Off - $149.60. Not a huge difference, but I thought Advantage Plus member should always have the lowest rate....

According to the T&C (http://www.adplusactivate.com/terms.php) :
A|Club Accor Advantage Plus members will receive the Members' Rate, being a 10% discount from the best unrestricted rate available at the time of reservation at participating Sofitel, Pullman, MGallery, Grand Mercure, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis and All Seasons hotels in Asia Pacific.
The "Take 20% off" rate you're quoting is an advance purchase, non-refundable rate. They should give you a 10% rebate on the Unrestricted rate only. They decided to apply it, apparently, to an already discounted rate, but they could have done less than that.

They should have the best unrestricted rate. It's mostly useful if you need to travel at high demand periods or if your schedule is subject to last minute change, or in place where hotels are booked all year round and they don't release interesting advance purchase rate, for exemple.
Hotels can provide you with 10% discount on special discount and promotions BUT can associate this with capacity control according to the T&C. So you're not guaranteed to have them available.

The Accor boiler-room is constantly calling me to pump the Advantage-Plus card and the telemarketers always promise that the card gives you 10% discount off ANY published rate including the Super-Sale etc
This is rubbiish then?

The advertizing seems to go beyond what's written in the T&C. The usefulness of the card would depend on many factor, mainly availability of "doubly discounted rooms" which is difficult to estimate.

I agree.
However, just noticed this on the Accor Advantage Plus site:
20% Off the Member's Rate
Accommodation
Valid from 13 April, 2012 To 29 June, 2012
With a choice of 27 hotels across 10 destinations in New Zealand and Fiji, it's easy to find one to suit you and your budget.
Why not treat the family to a holiday or how about a romantic weekend escape for two?
20% off the member's rate at participating Accor hotels in NZ & Fiji is only available for bookings from 1 April until 30 June 2012 and for stays from now until 31 August 2012. Bookings must be made at least 7 days prior to arrival. All bookings are payable at the time of reservation and are non-exchangeable, non-refundable and non-transferable. Rooms that are part of the special offer are subject to availability at time of booking. Rates displayed are in local currency and are inclusive of all local taxes unless otherwise stipulated.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but according to my calculation, this offer should result in a price of $107.28 (which is the Member's Rate - $134.1 less 20%). But this price is not offered on the booking page...

Just made a call, same rate was offered by the operator.
Inquired about this "20% off member's rate" thing, but the operator said this is only "20% off Le-Club member's rate", not "20% off Advantage Plus member's rate"... Personally I think that is BS when they advertise "20% off member's rate" on Advantage Plus Exclusive Member Offers area...

Made a complaint on the Accor Advantage Plus website, and got the following reply.
Thank you for contacting Accor Advantage Plus Member Services.
I have contacted the Mercure Queenstown Resort with regards to the rates you have found for the night of 02/07/2012. I spoke with the in-house reservation supervisor, Ankeet and was advised that there is an internal error that the hotel are aware of and they are currently investigating.
Ankeet has advised me that the Accor Advantage Plus members rate for the night of 02/07/2012 is NZ$107.28 for a Standard Room Garden View. If you wish to arrange this booking with the Mercure Queenstown Resort please email the hotel on reservations@mercureqtn.co.nz, with your request and attach your Accor Advantage Plus membership number and credit card details. Please note if you wish to proceed with this booking it is a prepaid rate, the full deposit is not refundable and the booking cannot be cancelled or modified.
Look like this is an implementation error on the website rather than the rate being unavailable as the other member suggested.
Anyway, I have emailed the hotel and let's see what happens... Fingers crossed.

Just received reply from the manager of Mercure Queestown, and I have made the reservation with the lower 20% off Member's Rate!!! :)
Thank you for your email. I am delighted to confirm that below price is correct and valid for your booking request as per conversation with ACCOR Advantage plus Service centre. In order to proceed with the booking, please provide expiry date of ACCOR Advantage plus Le Club Platinum Card and full credit card details including expiry date for prepayment purposes.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused, this is due to an internal inventory error and we are trying to resolve this issue.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly, if you require further assistance.
Kind Regards,
Mercure Queenstown Resort

In the hotel's inventory, I suppose. Accor hotels' websites are pretty standard and I doubt they could fail to display a rate that was coorectly entered. Perhaps they forgot to assign rooms for the rate you wanted.

Glad it worked for you. The first agent you spoke to (the one that quoted the off Le Club rate) was right in line with the T&C of the the programme, but apparently their customer service is willing to do more. I still think they should put that in writing (10% off any published rate) as it would make the programme's easier to assess for those who try to book promotional rates and not BAR.

I'm not sure which way it was failing, but I have searched a few hotels that participates in the "20% off Member's Rate" promotion, and seems like none of them actually got it right for Advantage Plus member...

Agreed. "10% off any published rate" sounds more solid for a paid membership.
