I'm sorry to have to interrupt all the miles and points questions but we have never flown Aegean Air before. I am concerned about their carry on luggage restrictions. I just want to make sure I understand the rules. Are they real strict about the 8 kilos and the dimensions of the rollerboard? The dimensions on their website are a little smaller than they are for any other airline we have flown and, truthfully, we don't have carryons that would fit their measurements. Do they make you put your luggage in a measurement bin? Also, can you bring on a rollerboard and a purse or backpack or when they say one item is it truly only one item. We've always been allowed a rollerboard plus a purse or backpack. I just want to be prepared in advance and not be surprised at the airport. Thank you for any help you can provide.

A3 is certainly not paranoid about carry-ons, and they won't mind one "normal" piece plus a computer or purse. Also, I don't recall having ever seen one of those measurement bins at an Aegean gate or check-in counter. Having said this, though, one should be aware that on a packed flight you risk having your oversized piece taken away from you to be loaded with the remaining luggage.

Thanks for your response. Last year we were on Air Berlin and they had similar restrictions. We did panic but they were fine with everything at the airport. The one time we didn't worry---flying Hawaiian Airlines---they weighed our carryons and we had to remove a few pounds and this was after we had checked our other piece.

I have read good reviews about Aegean Airlines and so we all are looking forward to our flight from Athens to Rome.

I have flown many European Airlines, and to date, only FlyBe has asked me to place my carry-on in the measurement frame...

Also, only Virgin Atlantic has asked me to weigh my carry-on during check-in. I got pretty mad, found it prettty outrageous that a european legacy carrier would weigh my carry-on on a TATL flight!

I too am flying Aegean ATH CDG and concerned about carry on weight. My carry
On was weighed TK IST and luckily girl did not charge me for overweight.

Also are laptop bags allowed plus carry on. My laptop bag is a Swiss Gear knapsack with 10 Zippers that I get away with on DL TATL BE But will that fly on Aegean coach ?

My wife's cousin got hammered for overweight Rome ATH nothing EXE ATH on
Aegean.

Recently flew A3 TLV-ATH with a pushing-the-limit roller, along with my small backpack. I had no problems. They did ask me to put it on the scale while checking in at TLV, but that was it. It was a light flight in which I had a whole row to myself, but I don't know if that had anything to do with the laxness.

My previous answer (A3 is not paranoic about carry-ons) is still valid, nevertheless let me elaborate a little. I would personally never call a Swiss Gear knapsack with 10 zippers a laptop bag , even if sold as one. It's a rucksack that has been designed such, that you can carry a laptop w/o being afraid that it will break. In addition to the computer, you can also fit in it half a household! Also, I am aware that my next statement might be thought of as a "racist" one, but I still don't understand why Americans carry with them such huge carry-ons. To mellow down my prejudicial declaration. that habit can only be matched by Greeks who usually travel with one, usually, regular size carry-on bag plus anything between 5 to 10 huge plastic bags with bottles, sweets, toys, and so on... ;)

Racist Smacist. Who cares what you are . I am not thin skinned and my name is Buck . Maybe you know the rest of the Rythme .

I , as a Greek American travel with a normal carry on bag , plus the 10 zipper Swiss gear laptop bag including a laptop and anything else I can stuff in it

I also travel BE and check in four bags x 70 Lbs. I am allowed one extra as silver medallion , plus one more as an Amex Gold DL cardholder.

Living in Greece 5 months a year I miss the old days when my friends ran OA .

I checked in 5 pieces usually , but was NEVER guilt of carrying a plastic or any other kind of shopping bag.

Now what about my ATH CDG in coach this Friday ?

The "huge-carry-on-problem" probably comes from many airlines charging extra for check-in bags. As we all know, the idea behind this is to scare up some extra revenue and keep ticket prices low. But in the long run, all it does is steering over more and more bags to be carried on.
Maybe we are just so lucky to have a few airlines left that don't charge extra...
