I've searched this forum, as well as the ANA and UA forums, but didn't find any threads that discuss such comparison: Any recommendations on these comparisons - for comfort/sleeping mostly (as a couple)? Many thanks...

There are multiple threads about UA F and NH C.
Also, you're comparing apples and oranges: F vs. C.
You will get new UA F and new NH C on this route.

Thanks -- I understand that it's apples vs oranges, except that I've read quite a lot of negative comments about UA overall; thus my question about the comparison. It seems that with both being new configurations, you suggest the UA F...
Thanks again.

UAPremExecflyer - another option I'm considering instead is OZ through ICN to SYD to CHC (ultimate destination is New Zealand) -- on 747-200 then a 777-200 in F -- thoughts?

If it is comfort you want, plus a nice big TV with all sorts of movie and TV choices, and not so much the food and service, I'd go with UA. I love the 1st suite, and I usually get a very good amount of sleep, which is important on the long haul.

I rarely back UA F but LAX-NRT is a bit of an exception. The crew should be NRT crew which are generally much better than the average US-based crew and no matter which way you look at it, F is F and C is C. Being a 777 route, there's always a chance of being stuck in an old 777 with the pitiful IFE but you know it'll be a fully flat and decent seat. I wouldn't pay much of a premium to fly UA F over NH Y but if cost wasn't an issue I'd prefer UA F. UA F would also get you IFL access so you can avoid the UC which is a zoo.
