Is there much difference between the two hard (and soft) products than the 2" of extra pitch on the 757 (noted on seatguru.com). Which would you choose if everything else was equal?

This would be a mainland to HI flt.(ca. 5 hours) using AA miles.

2"of pitch is negligible to me.

What are the entertainment and food options on the AA flight?

I fly AS much more than AA but I believe the service level on an AS flight is far superior to an AA flight. My $.02 on the matter.

If those are the only options, I would go with whatever has the easiset connection.

Unless you can find a way on to a AA 763, I wouldn't take anything but the easier flight.

I'm a pretty spoiled traveler; I recently flew from Hilo to LAX on Continental err United. It was a Micronesia plane (I can only imagine - it didn't have the directv) - and I complained about it to anyone who would listen. Both Alaska and AA probably have similar Firsts to the skeleton Continental plane. AA is on its way down and AK is still on the up. i say fly on them; service is better, they have the Dig-E-Viewer (free) for entertainment, and pretty good looking first class food (I was actually bored at work this week and looked it up). My $.02 is for Alaska; esp if it's non-stop from your home city.

Really??? Cause in my opinion AS was the most uncomfortable F seats out of all US Airlines hands down* )-:

*This honor actually goes to WN, but that for another Thread (-;

I wouldn't rank the AS F seat highly for comfort, but the 757 is generally regarded as the worst domestic F seating experience in the AA fleet. As remarked above, pick on schedule convenience and award availability.

Thats true on the original barcalounger 757 seats, but many AA 757s have had refurbishement and seat upgrades to have those similar to the 737 F seats with the slide seat base and 110v power instead of cig lighter plug. Not all AA757s are that way though so it is a bit of a crapshoot as to what you'll get. That said, I like both 757 seats in F and would prefer AA over AS for a Hawaii flight. I just don't like the AS F seats for long flights.

I clearly don't fly F enough, as I don't really think that F seats on AS are all that horrible. And for any of you who complain about that, I'll be happy to swap my cushy soft coach seat for your hard F torture device. :rolleyes:

as to the OP's question: Whichever is easiest, but I think the service on AS is better in front than AA in front.

I agree that AS F service is MARGINALLY better than AA's F Service. HOWEVER, the AA F seat is a LOT better than AS. So, I choice would always be for the more comfortable seat.

I think AS is slightly better in terms of food and in-flight service, and the digeplayer certainly has more selection than would be offered by a mainscreen system. Seat comfort to me is not that different, in that both are better than sitting in coach.

The new standard for "Excellence in F" :p

My following comments aren't critical of the OP, just a general observation. People seem overly concerned about comfort to Hawaii as compared to comfort on a transcon, when typically, one is on the aircraft for a similar or shorter amount of time on West Coast - Hawaii flights. (Traveling from further East, another story.)

I would go with what schedule and mileage earning best fit my needs, along with possible issues of lounge access on either end that may or may not be available with either.

AA is a bit of a coin flip with their 757 refurbishments. The good news is that i've been seeing more refurb 757s on the Hawaii routes lately. In fact, one went mx and our replacement was also. I'd put that seat a bit ahead of Alaska's, and consider the food a wash.
