Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum. I will be renting a car in the beginning of June for one week from Florida to Wisconsin. I was wondering if anyone here has any idea about if Hertz will be doing the $5 drive out for Florida this year?

Thanks

Hertz will not be doing the FL driveout this year, as I explained in another similar thread.

If you're going in the beginning of June, the Avis FL driveout will still be in effect. Like Hertz, you can pick up and/or return at neighborhood stores, but the Avis rate is $14/day plus tax, not $5 like Hertz.

If you choose the Avis option, you should book ASAP, in case the deal ends early, which happened with Hertz last year.

Please search the "Hertz FL driveout" thread again. Also please check the year on your link, which is non-functional for precisely that reason. It says 2011, not 2012.

Wow... my bad :( Can't believe I missed that.

By the way, it seems the Avis deal ($14/day for economy through minivan) will work for Milwaukee, airport or downtown, but not Madison. Madison Avis is presumably a franchise, and so can not accept corporate cars. The OP didn't elaborate on where in Wisconsin, but this is something to consider.

Also, if the OP has flexible travel dates, Dollar offers a midsize for $1/day one-way from FL to MKE, pickup by May 15, 7 day max.

National's FL driveout, with similar pricing to Avis, ends May 31, but since National MKE is an independent licensee, the FL driveout is not accepted there.

The issue i have is that i am 20 years old and i rent through Hertz using USAA, so to my knowledge i am limited to hertz. (Unless someone here knows of another rental agency that would rent to me without underage fees). I am pretty flexible as to where in Wisconsin i could drop off the car. My question now is are there any guidelines for a getting the best price on a one way rental? (i have never booked one before)

Thanks

My advice to you would be to wait until Hertz offers a FL driveout in a future year. If you were 21, you could rent with Dollar at $1/day in May and pay the taxable underage fee. You do not want to pay the normal very high retail one-way rates out of FL with Hertz this time.

Alamo and National also have a $14/day FL driveout promo going, but I don't know if there's a way to waive the underage fees with them.

Every single other rental agency i've checked states the minimum age as being 21. What is really annoying is i turn 21 in August... I'm so close (yet so far away). Is there anywhere else that would rent to 20 year olds?

Many Hertz locations allow you to rent at 18. Where are you going? I've rented in IL, ME, NY, and UT all under 21. Hertz is one of the only companies (is it the only one?) in the USA that lets you rent under 21. PC 144314, the Gold Family CDP, and the USAA CDP are all ways you can have the young driver fee waived.

On most retail rentals at corporate locations and participating licensee locations in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and St Thomas (USVI), the minimum age is 25 without an additional Age Differential Charge, and 20 with an additional Age Differential Charge. The Age Differential Charge is either $15/day or $25/day, depending on the vehicle rented. Minimum age for Prestige & Adrenaline Collections, as well as select high performance vehicles, is 25. In Mississippi, the minimum rental age is 21.

FWIW, I just turned 21 on Saturday (!) and last December I upgraded to a Corvette in SLC (which is in the Adrenaline Collection) :)
