So my Diamond Trial is ending this month. I have the 4 free suite upgrades which i have no idea what to do with them. I have no travel plans ahead. I just feel bad to just let them go to waste?
any thoughts or ideas?

You probably have figured this out already, but your error was asking for a challenge when you didn't have any defined plans for meeting the challenge.
Since you only get one bite of the apple, you probably won't get a second shot with Hyatt.
Depending on your location and financial circumstances, you would probably stand a good chance at using two on the two weekends left in April. Virtually any rate offered by Hyatt on its website will qualify.

Thanks for the reply!
Oh yeah I had no intention of completing the Diamond Trial, they just emailed me and I accepted. So it worked out well applying for the Hyatt Card. Do you by chance know if I could use them for like a booking in June? Even though they expire end of this month. Like if Book now for June? It would be nice if I could actually transfer them to someone who would need them!

You can certainly book them in advance of the expiration. This is your best bet. If you have to cancel your reservation though, you will lose the suite upgrade completely.

Can you book suite upgrade certs up to the stated expiration date, even if you will lose Diamond status before that date? Or do you have to book a trip before the Diamond status expires?

In my experience they can be applied to stays after the expiration date. Once the upgrade is confirmed it is confirmed, so status should not matter. In fact, since Hyatt's system is based on a guest's status at the time of reservation, the property may be unaware of any change in status.

Actually, my question was whether or not the suite upgrade could be done after Diamond status expires, but before the suite upgrade certificate expires.
I am considering to get a Diamond Trial, even though I will probably not be able to complete the challenge (but that would be the case at any time in the forseeable future...) If I got it, I imagine that the Diamond status would last until August 2012, but the certs would have an expiration of February 2013? If so, would I be able to book those suite upgrades during the period of September 2012 to February 2013? Or would I have to book them all by the end of August?

IIRC the suite upgrades will remain in your account and can be used until they expire, irrespective of whether or not you still have Diamond status.

Sorry, but this sounds like an abuse of the program and Hyatt's generosity. Stuff like this will cause them to give the suite upgrade certs only to people who successfully complete the challenge and treat it as part of next year's benefits, so that you don't get the four extra upgrades. Things can change and you might really want/need the status match/challenge in the future.

If you can't do 12 measly nights in 60 days, then just don't do the trial. Don't ask for it just to get a free suite upgrade...as mentioned, that is just abusive and stuff like that will lead to a reduction in the generosity for the challenge. Just wait until you can complete the 12 nights.

I'm kinda surprised that you're surprised people on FT take advantage (and over-advantage) of the offers that these chains put out. Seems pretty rampant to get whatever/whenever/however on here.

Well, I am all for taking FULL advantage,...but to me there is a difference between taking advantage of and abusing something. 12 nights is NOTHING to have a year, or year and a half of Diamond..especially since they give you the suite upgrades now and again when you requal for the next year. Seems to me that instead of just getting the 1 time challenge to get a couple of suite upgrades, a person should just wait until they can do the measly 12 nights.

It's a Trial, not a Challenge. I would be giving them the opportunity to convince me of the value of the Diamond program. If I'm not convinced, I still see no problem using the gifts I would receive to that end.

not a trail, in order to get one you need to ASK for it AND send NOT only your Diamonds status proof from eg Hilton (my case) BUT also account summary (they want to know how many nights and how much money did you spend in eg Hilton).
You are basically declaring that you want to become loyal Hyatt customer and Hyatt trust that you will deliver your side.
IMHO Hyatt should take away 4 suite upgrades after the unsuccessful trail BECAUSE if you fail you are not a Diamond and you did not earn them (they are not a GIFT)

Hyatt's Diamond Trial, by which one receives trial Diamond membership for 60 days, is without a doubt more generous than any other program's elite challenge. You are free, of course, to have any opinion you want about whether someone is abusing Hyatt's generosity.

Go for it knowing that it may haunt you in the future if you really want a trial in hopes of obtaining an ongoing Diamond status
however, if you are willing to risk that, then go for it, its a no harm no foul type of deal. they are offering this knowing full well some people may do this, its part of the cost of doing business for them. Im guessing they assume that some percentage will become long term customers and some won't.

Sorry complete newbie here. I'm sure its between the lines in this thread somewhere, and sorry for asking what may be blatantly obvious but my question is: do you get 4 suite upgrades during the 60 day trial or is it only effective once you qualify?
If it does apply during the 60 day trial, do we simply call up GP to apply this to our booking?
Thanks.

You get the suite upgrades the day you are approved for the trial and get bumped to Diamond status. They are good to use until February 2013, regardless of whether or not you lose your Diamond status before that time.
(to all of the people above who were judging me, I did go on to do the 12 nights to keep Diamond status into 2014. The Trial did its job in convincing me to do what was necessary to keep the status longer.)

Thanks. Does the suite upgrade work for any room category booked (provided its an eligible stay of course), but do you need a minimum category or will the most 'basic' room do?
I just sent all my forms over and my first stay is 5 September in Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, hopefully they will start the trial by then...

Any room will do, though it will only work if there are any qualifying suites available at the time you try to use the upgrade.

Not just any suites, but suites of the category eligible to use the upgrade certs, which usually means the base suite category at the property. You can book the most basic room, but it must be at an eligible rate: no award stays.

It seems rampant because people new to programs have the most questions, and FT is a place you can get knowledgeable answers...which then feeds efforts to play the system. I personally don't agree with it, but each person has to live with their own moral standards....@:-)
But you may want to check -
1) if you are considering this for a specific trip, better make sure suites are available, and that it is truly a suite. At some properties it is just a larger room - so why bother?
2) and if it is a resort to which you are going, you want to finish that Trial - because Diamond status perks you receive will be worth it. Find some cheap HP's and do a few mattress runs.
