Budget Travel - Jakarta-Bozeman-Jakarta

My travel agent who usually gives me a good deal is asking like $2300 for this. My dates (Aug 15-Aug29) coincide with the Indonesian holiday of Eid, so that could be one reason for the spike, but still...seems about 300-400 dollars too high.
Does anyone know of any good websites or travel agent for this sector?
I have looked at asaptickets.com (Not a scam right?) and they say about $1650 on the website...Im sure when I call them up they will charge more though...

The fact that you are starting your journey in Bozeman is probably what makes it expensive.
Try pricing the trip from Los Angeles or San Francisco or wherever the flights to Indonesia leave from and then finding a cheaper way (low-cost carrier, bus, rent a car and drive) to get to those cities.
For example, I found that I saved $900 on a RT ticket to Japan by flying out of LAX instead of MSP. I live in Minneapolis, but I found a cheaper way to fly to LAX, for total savings of $600.

My journey starts in Jakarta.
LOL asaptickets.com turned $1600 to $2200 on the phone.

Ha ha, we have a whole long thread about that here at Budget Travel forum
But I have to agree with ksandness about the strategy regardless of where you start: look for cheap transPac flight, and another ticket to Bozman. It's a small town, so it won't be cheap to get there, but possibly using a bus or renting a car for part of the journey may help.

I could do that but I think it's like a difference of 200 bucks to not fly from/to Seattle. Also, it will be pretty darn hectic to do those long stressful flights and immediately jump in a car/bus. Also, getting a car/bus is probably not going to save me a lot of money in the long run anyway...

Does anyone have any advice??
What would you do to get the cheapest tickets here?

ITA shows 23something for your dates. But Aug 13 to 28 is 2043.
Sticking with your dates, but using the 300 mile destination radius search comes up with 2170 into Boise, ID and out of RKS (Rock Springs someplace).
Your dates into LAX drops down to 1736.

Try lots of things. Expedia, et al. Don't forget the airline sites. They sometimes have unpublished specials you can't see elsewhere.
Put in for a "fare alert" at various sites. Kayak is one. It might tip you to a sale.

Did you check other airports flying back to the US?
Jakarta is a simple direct flight from a few other big airports that might have cheaper fares. AirAsia, JetStar come to mind. The big airports to check are Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong.
Checking (as an example) JKT-SFO on Skyscanner is around $1800 but flying from Hong-Kong drops down to $1000. A R/T airasia ticket to HKG might only run ya $150.
Play around with this link from skyscanner, but yeah, tickets look pricey.

If you were getting $1600'ish R/T Bozeman from an agent, that's a pretty sweet deal, btw. I live in Bali and it's usually over $2000 to/fro smaller US cities.
