Hi,

I wanted to know what kind of product NH is using in C on their NH1006 HND-LAX flight in the older 777. While I have a C upgrade award reserved for the NRT-SFO route (in the new staggered seats), a scheduling conflict has come up and it looks like I may have to change the date. If I do that, the only TPAC with C upgrade availability is NH1006. Are they using the almost lie-flat product they had on all of their TPAC 777s two years ago?

Also, the agent on the phone said that for the NRT-SFO route on 8/15, there was nobody on the waiting list yet for a C upgrade. If I am first on the list and have Bronze status, what do you think my chances are of the upgrade clearing? If it were you, would you go for the sure bet C seat on HND-LAX, or the waitlist for the new product?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. Did you try a dummy booking to see? The times I have flown the route it has been the slant seats. I prefer HND airport, not the seat so much !

It will be the lie-flat product shown here (http://www.ana.co.jp/int/svc/w_en/c/seat/777_300er_01/). Reasonably comfortable but not full-flat.

Also, the agent on the phone said that for the NRT-SFO route on 8/15, there was nobody on the waiting list yet for a C upgrade. It depends on your schedule, but I would personally try waitlisting for the new product. You'll most likely clear if you're first on the list.

How does the algorithm for clearing work in terms of status vs. place on list? For example, if a Diamond or otherwise *G member is 10th on the list, do they go ahead of me?

Also, do upgrades generally clear well ahead of departure date, on departure date, or just randomly?

Status gives priority to elites; obviously DIA is higher than PLT, which is higher than BRZ, but I'm not sure if *G is higher than BRZ in all cases.

I was on the waitlist for an upgrade recently, and only cleared at the gate. Unless the cabin was full (in my case it was), you stand a good chance as a BRZ of clearing at least a few days in advance, in my opinion.

I'm booked on this flight for Dec this year. Are they likely to upgrade the planes to the staggered C seats by then?

It seems that NH is only converting 777-300ER to staggered C not 777-200ER and usually HND-LAX is operated with 777-200ER

Thanks JALPak, I guess it's still better than flying in Y.
But for 10 hours I think a flat bed would make a big difference.

Not sure why NRT seems to get all the better planes. It's the same for SQ planes flying into Tokyo as well.

Just a wild guess here, but I guess all the flights to Haneda are so convenient (because the airport is much closer to downtown Tokyo) that they will be booked anyway; instead, flights to Narita need to have some kind of advantage so that airlines can attract pax to fly in the middle of nowhere.
