Caribbean - Majestic Punta Cana fire

The resort had a big fire this week...spa, restaurant, pool bar...but the resort is up and operating.

Thatch roofing went up in flames, little to do when that happens!

The problems lies in that they use an under shield below the actual thatch roofing and the fire carries out atop, riding the wind 100% and spreading to where it links for more.

The actual damages are isolated to the roof and wood structures, all else is concrete.

I see those fire all the time in Cancun, just smaller as they learned to distance the roofs from one another using aluminum spacers for safety.
