MilesBuzz! - Any Marriott partner airlines let you cash out points into AX/MC/V credit gift card?

I loved the ability to transfer my Amex points to Delta, get a points bonus, and then cash out my Delta miles in the form of Amex gift cards. Unfortunately, it seems I no longer have access to the Delta store because I got rid of my Delta credit card. I am silver status on Delta, US Airways, and Gold on American. Does anyone have any tips/tricks for transferring points to an airline and cashing out miles in the form of a credit/debit gift card (does not have to be an american express gift card). I have a ton of points sitting in my Amex and Marriott accounts. Thanks!

Bump. I also have 270,000 Marriott points I can transfer to an airline partner. Really looking to cash out as opposed to using the points for a redemption. I sure miss the 11,000 Delta points for $100 Amex gift card days...

Are you looking only for a cash-equivalent giftcards (i.e. Amex, MasterCard, VISA) or also merchant cards? There is no need to transfer Membership Rewards points to an airline to obtain merchant cards.

I prefer cash-equivalent. I ended up cashing my Amex points out into gift checks (12,000 points for $100) but I have 270,000 points in Marriott I want to do something similar (I can transfer to any major airline partner).

Thread transferred to MilesBuzz! because response requires knowledge of the redemption options for several major airlines.

Marriott's airline transfer partners are listed here:

http://www.marriott.com/rewards/usepoints/morerew.mi

The highest transfer rate 10000:2000 appears to be this group:

Aeromexico, Aeroplan (Air Canada), Alaska, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, GOL/Varig, Hawaiian Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways, Virgin Atlantic

I followed the link: http://www2.aeroplan.com/promotions/promotion_details.do?promotion=promo_webup2953_AE&currentLanguage=en&cid=dcom1077a&gclid=CNqarOKB47ACFQF_hwodiC9S1g

It says the promotion you are trying to view has expired. Darn it.

Also, Aeroplan is Canadian? ..so can I do this as a US citizen?

Thanks!

Yes in it's heyday, you could sign up for a plat amex (100K MR), transfer to delta (1.5X), and cash out for $1,500 in GC. And get 25,000 MQM and Silver status to boot. That's gone.

But I would suggest that this conversion is probably not worthwhile or recommended. I think you'll just loose too much compared to their value as hotel points. $250-300 in GC vs. 5 night stay in a ritz carlton...

Can't Marriott Platinums request checks?

If you are not a plat, maybe a taste of plat challenge?

That said, 270K is the exact amount needed for 120K miles + 7 night certificate at a Cat 5 under their trip rewards. I'd do that.

I am a plat. I made a trade with someone already but I'm still curious about the requesting of a check...

Thanks for the info but I rather have cash or Amex (or similar) gift card so I can spend outside Marriott. Looks like a decent deal though for someone that wants to cash out and spend at Marriott.
