Any idea when they will be released? I saw them pop up for about a day last week but they have since been removed????

ALEXIS2004
Apr 18, 12, 2:14 am
I saw them pop up also about a week ago and then they disappeared! They usually post them on the 15th or 16th. I think they must be reconsidering the lineup.

Please, in future when you first notice them, post it here. We try to "grab" the first iteration so that we can compare it with the final verison.

I just called the French FB line with an unrelated question, and, at the end of the conversation, asked the agent if she had any info on the upcoming promo awards... and she did!

I didn't feel like having her read through the whole list, I only asked about Asia and Latin America, and obviously there is no guarantee that what she said is accurate, but .... for what it's worth, here's what she said (and what I remember):

- Beijing
- Shanghai
- Guangzhou
- Singapore

- Lima
- Caracas
- one more city in LatAm but not in Brazil

Singapore again! I guess with an A380 to SIN, it's going to always be on the list.

Not so! It's only in the last couple of years that they published early. Before that, the new list was only unveiled with days to go.

Just to warn you - you should not make any definite plans (i.e. booking non-refundable accommodation, tours/activities or additional travel) based solely on advance notice of available destinations. Until you have actually been able to secure a Promo Award, you may find that the date/location you had hoped for is not available at a Promo Award rate!!!

But enjoy your trip, wherever you end up!!!

Ah here, what kind of numpty would do that in the first place !

But enjoy your trip, wherever you end up!!!
I'm thinking about spending the 6 weeks in Ireland - will be good to be back with my feet on the ground, and all the time in the world to do things. Tardy AF/KL can take a hike, for a while anyway.

And speaking of being tardy, just how long should one give Alitalia to credit points to FB ? A month seems a bit too long....

My last Alitalia flight (booked as a KL flight though) last December never posted. If it's not posted after a month, there's a problem.

I wasn't able to use the online retro-claim thing, even though it was a KL ticket bought from KLM. You'll have to send in a claim to the Flying Blue centre - or, far better and efficient (if you're passing through Schiphol anytime soon) is to get the FB desk in the Crown Lounge there to sort it out for you.

I had this problem as well; no connecting flights to any UK airport were available, even if xxx-AMS was available with a promo award for the day in question. This was particularly odd, as AMS-BRS is a separate promo award, and showed availability in all classes for all flights on the relevant date.

Nothing from MAN either..

Thats why i always thought the Europe 1/2/3 would come in but just doesnt seem to work... ahh well have to wait another couple of months to see what comes in the July / August set, as was looking forward to actually spending some miles :) Might have to use my 300Euro voucher instead...

Am I the only one noticing that CDG-HEL is in promo award whereas AF is not flying to HEL (codeshare with AY direct flight) and thus when I look on the availability I have to connect via AMS with KL at the normal rate of course!

Hi all, What is the current standard practice for trying to book awards when they are being shown as available on the website but then getting the message about the "last awards on these flights have just been booked", despite the fact that when I try 30 mins later the awards are showing back as available again?

Trying to book promo Economy o/w SFO to LON or classic Prem Economy on the same route - both fail, I seem to get as far as Paris as others have pointed out on the board.

Does anyone know whether it is worth holding on for this fault to be rectified or is it worth ringing FB direct?

And is it me or have the taxes on return-to-UK/Europe flights in the last year skyrocketed again on FB?

Thanks! S.

Guy Betsy

The funny thing about the stupid website is that it somehow shows different availability if you put different country selections. When selecting either European country for originating from AMS to YVR (which I had just booked), it flashes a warning eg 1 seat left !!

But when I change the country to say Hong Kong, that last seat warning disappears even though the routing request has not changed.

Funny. But irritating that when I choose HK, I cannot go beyond 'Contact Information" page!

Catusa

Do they have "buckets" or different availability based on origin/destination with award travel like they do for fares? I remember seeing something like this before using my FB miles on Delta. I saw no availability PHL-MSP direct but when I selected PHL-MSP-IAH there was availability on the direct flt. Strange.

The website says C is available for 29k miles - a mere 4k more than a return Y ticket - I'm assuming this is a typo and you paid 50K for a return ticket?

For those not following our CDG AF Do event thread, it is believed that there will be an announcement in a few weeks regarding fuel surcharges and awards. I'm hoping that at least for intra-Europe awards the surcharges are dramatically reduced, but we'll see.

That certainly would be a welcome benefit. One of the better aspects of the changes made to BA's Executive Club when they moved to Avios last November was the introduction of the Reward Flight Saver (http://www.britishairways.com/travel/reward-flight-saver-table/public/en_us) intra-Europe redemptions - 9,000 miles plus just €27/£27 per person in Band 1 (i.e. AMS-LHR en v.v.), rising to 20,000 miles plus €27/£27 per person in Band 3 (i.e. IST-LHR en v.v.) - BA pays all other taxes. For Club Europe (business class), the mileage amount charged is doubled, but the cash element increases only to €34/£34 per person.

Frankly BA is the only one offering somewhat decent Awards intra-europe. So any improvement by FB towards that goal would be great :)

I doubt we should expect that BA's offering will be matched though. BA miles are much harder to come by, and therefore also more valueable. FB miles are pretty much the cheapest ones to earn, and therefore awards will be priced higher.

Why do you say that? I earn far more BA miles on flights than what I earn flying AF/KL. Especially when BA runs those massive miles bonuses.

Xandrios
May 2, 12, 9:25 am
Perhaps my impressions are wrong, I don't usually fly BA. For my intra-european flights BA is usually 50 to 100% more expensive than AFKL though. Which means that the miles are more expensive to get (even though per flown mile you might get more miles). From what I saw on the BA website the earnings per flown mile are comparable to those of AFKL.

Not taking bonusses into account though. Perhaps that changes things indeed :)

stimpy
May 2, 12, 9:29 am
Even on a super cheap ticket AMS-LHR or CDG-LHR, you get minimum 500 miles with BA. Plus another 500 for being elite. With AF/KL you would get less than 100 miles I think.

As you'll have seen from the other posters, this is blatantly not true!

Even the cheapest economy fares on AMS-LON earn 500 miles - and as a Gold or Silver, you get a bonus of 500 - so the minimum 1000 miles for a return becomes 2000 miles for me.

The cheapest economy AMS-LON return trip nets only 2 * 187 = 374, which they graciously double for me, being a Plat, to 748 miles. Barely more than a third of what BA doles out.

KLeM
May 3, 12, 12:10 am
Is it me or can FB just as well stop giving miles altogether as its nearly impossible to get any value when you try to spend them. With the promo awards this time there are hardly any WBC awards and with the insane taxes / fees on award tickets using the miles for economy tickets makes no sense as the cheapest fares are often nearly the same price as the taxes / fees on an award ticket.

kroxy
May 3, 12, 3:10 am
Funny thing is, if I book an award ticket with promotions to Montreal, it says I've to pay 553 Euros in taxes, if I book a "normal" ticket, I have to pay 364 Euros in taxes. Don't know why it's like this.

Also, I am only spending points in WBC, because I don't think it's worth it to use it in economy. Allthough I haven't spent any yet.

I also checked with my account, as other people have stated above, you won't get the WBC to NY for 29.000, most likely a typo.

Alright alright, take it easy ;) I already said above that this might have been a wrong impression.

Your example is a bit biased towards BA though because they have a higher 'minimum miles' number. AFKL indeed offers much less in that regard. However if you fly longer distances I believe it might be less of a difference? Especially if you take the ticket price into consideration (AFKL seems cheaper intra-europe). Anyway, it does not really matter :)

The paid ticket is a promo fare, meaning a discount is given both on the Fare-component and the Fuel Surcharges component. When booking an award you pay the full fuel surcharge fee.

Seems like a lot of people have not realised that Reward Flight Saver is also for Iberia flights from Spain to Europe*, and it does include domestic flights in Spain (except to the Canaries).
eg. AMS-MAD-ALC will cost 7.500 Avios and £13 or
15.000 £17 in Business (exceptional value since IB unlike BA does have a domestic business class)

If there's one thing to complain about it's that they didn't manage
to create one loyalty program for both airlines, like FB.
Sure you can move around points between BAEC, IB Plus and avios.com but
why should you have to.
