Sorry-strange situation but I can't imagine I am the only one to have this issue:

I will be at a conference but my wife and daughter will be joining me for part of it. They'd like to rent a car for two days to get out of the city and explore. There is a Hertz location right near our hotel. If we do a two day rental, they have to find overnight parking. It would actually be cheaper to do two separate rentals and return the car overnight than pay for parking at the hotel.

Has anyone ever encountered this? Has the rental location ever allowed someone to park the vehicle there overnight and retrieve it the next morning?

Call the location and ask. Some don't care, some offer discount parking, some won't do anything for you. It's very location dependent.

You can try to google

Hertz discount parking <<city name>>

to see if they have a page for it, for example their New York page is here

https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/specialoffers/index.jsp?targetPage=discount_pkg.jsp&Category=BB

Though call to confirm, that may be out of date.

Why not just tow two separate 1-day rentals? You likely are going to have to visit the office each morning anyway.
