Hertz - Excess amounts for Hertz Italy
I'll be renting a Ford Focus from Hertz Italy (Bergamo), but can't find the excess amounts anywhere.
Found a post on another forum that mentioned they may want to book above 1100€ (more than 1400$) from your credit card for this car class
Seems a bit over the top considering the much lower 500€ excess common in nearby countries. Can someone share their experience? Was it actually 1000+ euros and do they add an extra booking for fuel too just in case?
(Was planning to rent via AutoEurope with full excess cover since Hertz's super cover is hefty to say the least.)

Welcome to Flyertalk.
I have heard they were sky high in some italian locations, but do not know exactly how much. I've heard numbers anywhere from 700 euros and up.
They do not list the deposit amount like they usually do in the how to pay information, so I would give them a call (the location directly) and ask them
Been trying to call, but the line was constantly busy. When someone finally answered, they said they personally don't have an overview of this information (huh?) but it should be available on their web page.
The information is available on the Rental Qualifications and Requirements page (https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/reservation/reviewmodifycancel/templates/rentalTerms.jsp?KEYWORD=CDW&EOAG=BGYT50), which can be accessed from the Review & Book step of the booking process. The excess for (D - CDMR) Ford Focus or similar is listed as EUR 1,100.00 with a deductible of EUR 9,296.22.
There's also an extra clause for rentals through AutoEurope in US placing the excess for those at EUR 300.00.

Excess amounts are on the Hertz website - see link and choose CDW from the drop down box.
Excess is EUR1,100, or EUR300 through AutoEurope.
I can't find any clarification as to how much they actually authorise to your card though.

That's interesting. So if I take a car from Hertz via AutoEurope, Hertz will only demand an excess of EUR 300? Us I understand, this goes for US citizens only. But would be great, that's true.
(Tried to get info from Hertz Europe helpdesk. They asked me to call the local office. I did. "Please push 1 for ... or press 2 for ..." All of it in Italian... I did understand the first automated message but didn't have a clue what to press next.)
To resurrect this thread - some relevant info:
1) I was talking to Hertz International Desk today and they told me that they would price match AutoEurope.
2) I asked including insurance coverages (amounts and excesses) and was told yes by a supervisor.
3) Did a price check on AutoEurope and called back to see if Hertz would match. They matched the price quote with insurances but they would not match the excesses.
For Mini Class (Fiat 500)
Theft AutoEurope/Hertz 1000/1700 E
CDW 1000/~7000 E
In addition, AutoEurope offered Zero Excess coverage of ~$9/day as opposed to Hertz's SuperCoverage which is >$200 per week.
As much as I'd like to rent Hertz - there's no way I can justify it.
