Italy - Romani or frequent visitors - help me find a good pizzeria!

Hopefully this will be easy - I'm looking for one or two good, authentic, pizzerie in Roma for pizza romana.

I attended the Loyola University Chicago Rome Center on Monte Mario for a semester back in 1998, and my fellow students and I had no problem finding good pizza back then (being a long way from any tourist attraction didn't hurt).

Now it seems that every pizzeria I find in Roma is either closed or an overpriced tourist trap, no matter how far I am from the tourist routes. Mrs. keihin_242 and I often have guests who we travel with to Roma for the weekend to visit the main attractions, and while we have found a few go-to ristoranti and trattorie, pizza hasn't worked out. While I live in Campania and prefer pizza napoletana, I still really want to find a reliable pizzeria in Roma.:)

Grazie!

While waiting for the locals to chime in, I'll throw this your way -

Katie Parla seems to be pretty diligent about warning people away from tourist traps and overrated establishments - here are some posts which hopefully will give you a couple of worthy options to try on your next visit:

Edited to add:
Since some of you may not want to bother clicking on those links, here's a cut and paste from the "Rome's Best Pizza" post with her favorites for "Roman style" pizza (I'll be curious to read what the Romans think of these choices):

Li Rioni on Via Dei Ss. Quattro Coronati, 24 in the Celio

Da Remo on Piazza Santa Maria Liberatrice, 44 in Testaccio

Honorable mention, open at lunchtime:

La Montecarlo on Vicolo Savelli, 13 near Piazza Navona

Dal Paino on Via di Parione 34 near Piazza Navona.

And here are additional posts providing more details on her choices above:

It occurs to me that a Californian (me) recommending a New Jerseyan (Katie Parla) for her suggestions for good Roman pizzerie - to a resident of Campania (you) is just plan wrong, for lack of a better word!

So here's a link to a terrific Italian blog for Rome dining options, Tavole Romane, and their article with a list of the best pizza romana:
La Guida de Noantri sulla pizza romana (http://tavoleromane.wordpress.com/2011/05/23/la-guida-de-noantri-sulla-pizza-romana/)

This article also appeared in "Dissapore" - I'm adding the link since it provides a lot more pictures than the Tavole Romane site:
La “Guida Michelin” della pizza romana (http://www.dissapore.com/mangiare-fuori/la-guida-michelin-della-pizza-romana/)

And to English-only speakers Tavole Romane now has an English section to their site (as well as a handy tab for Google translations of their Italian-only pages).

I actually know of Tavole Romane by following Katie Parla on twitter - but I thought their recommendations might seem more valid to you....

+1 ...although their hours are (were) sporadic

You may also want to take a crack at 'Ivo a Trastevere' on Via di San Francesco a Ripa. The original Pizzeria da Baffetto has a lot of traction with both Roman's and tourists alike but IMHO Baffetto Due outside of Campo di Fiori is considerably better (pizzeriabaffetto.it), as is Da Francesco.

Getting back to my old neighborhood, Dar Poeta is solid and trendy (if that's your thing). Menu was slightly pricier if I remember. For some pizza al taglio try La Boccacia on Via Santa Dorotea. There's another al taglio pizzeria on Via delle Grazie by the Vatican that's more towards your old neighborhood. Sorry, didn't spend too much time in Monte Mario so no recommendations.

Honestly, if this forum had higher traffic I suggest this become a sticky. Can't go wrong with a good pizza debate.

'In bocca al lupo'

All,

Finally got to Da Remo this weekend. It was wonderful and the wife and I were happy. We were staying in the IC De La Ville on a Chase Visa free night and found bus 83 took us from Barberini right to Remo's doorstep.

Interestingly, I think their pizza is nearly Neapolitan in the center and becomes progressively more Roman on the way to the crust, which is burned black in many places, perhaps an "extreme Roma" touch. Not exactly what I was used to 14 years ago, but it was fantastic just the same.

After years of dealing with day trips to Rome and a Centro Storico full of horrendous tourist traps ("Hello? English? Mister? 9 Euro margherita here with the cheapest of ingredients, step inside..."), and after a day stomping around the Musei Vaticani, it was really a moment of joy to sit down in a crowded pizzeria full of actual Romans and eat really good food at reasonable prices.

Like Jimmy Buffett overdosing on beignets in "The Wino and I Know," I ate till I ate way too much. :p

Thanks, Italia Forum, for pointing me in the right direction.^

I like Remo as well, pretty good pizza and very quick service. It's also worth to try Sforno http://www.sforno.it/, it's not as central as Remo but it's very close to line A subway station Subaugusta.
