This is interesting...just saw this on EVA's website:

http://www.evaair.com/html/b2c/english/club/Partners/Mileage/#Airline - scroll down to United

Chinese version: http://www.evaair.com/html/b2c/Chinese/club/Partners/Mileage/

On united.com, EVA Airways Evergreen Club is indeed a choice of programs you can select for Frequent Flyer Information!

We have been trying to confirm if the reverse is true on various threads due to:

http://www.united.com/CMS/en-US/marketing/custcomm/promotions/Pages/AirlinePartnerDetails.aspx?ItemId=71

but the conclusion seems to be it is a website mistake...

Maybe something is going on...

If I had to guess...I heard last time round, EVA really didn't like paying CO all the OnePass miles awarded when flying EVA. So, they probably got UA into paying them for the miles first and are dragging their feet going the other way...

So the funny thing is, which one is true?

This one sounds really true and it is on UA's system so I think it is true.

Of course, it seems to me unless you are going after EVA's Diaomond status and fly and redeem frequently and almost exclusively on EVA, it would be a better deal to credit to UA. The UA redemption chart is mostly better and miles expire a lot slower.

Maybe another revision of Evergreen Club is coming to align with the Star Alliance award chart and make it more competitive before BR opens the floodgate to people crediting to UA.

Or, after they re-examine the issue, they will drag their feet even more getting into *A and have really bad earning rates when crediting to UA.

So I called Mileage Plus in TPE and had a chat with an agent. She was amazed that the system would actually take my BR #. She said that their understanding is that nothing happens until next year and their website is a mistake.

Obviously that is not correct. I think we are very close to have the mystery figured out :D

Your wish is UA's command. Youc can do that now. Can't book online and the redemption chart is different from the regular one.

Hello all,

My dad is 16,000 miles away from making EVA Gold, and he is planning to fly on United.

We have some questions for you:

1) Do miles flown on United Metal count towards the 16,000 miles requirement to make Gold?

2) One of the United flights have the comment "Operated by REPUBLIC AIRLINES DBA UNITED EXPRESS."; does this flight also count towards the 16,000 miles requirement to make Gold?

Thanks,
bacxow

I think after 6/18 the miles will count cause that's the date EVA is entering Star.

Thanks coolfish,

Your input (along with others above) seem to suggest that miles earned on United metal will be recognized by EVA for future redemption/ upgrade; maybe not for qualifying for status on EVA.

I will try calling the local EVA office to see if they can confirm miles on United metal will count for status qualification or not.

Thanks,
bacxow

I don't think the EVA agents will have a definite answer for you till mid-April (or even late May) cause they are not entering Star till 6/18, so the booking codes that earn miles are probably not listed in their handbooks.

If your Dad takes a flight from now till EVA officially enters Star, his miles will not be recognized by EVA for status unless the flight is in EVA/UNI code and metal. That is for sure.

Wait a second. I don't think you can credit EVA flights to US right now.
EVA is not part of *A yet.

There's only a short window of time when you can credit EVA Air flights to US Dividend Miles - Between BR joining *A (tentatively June 2013) and US officially exiting *A (probably toward the end of 2013 or early 2014). As long as US remains *A member, even if you're flying the last day before the exit, BR is supposed/required to credit miles to US by alliance rule.

If you're flying before June, you can only get bonus/award miles (not status miles) by crediting them to UA MP.
