No in most properties.
Some properties, IIRC, such as Hyatt Regency Paris is charging small amount of taxes for award stays.

I used GP points for a one night stay in March 2012 at HP Nashville Airport. I paid taxes.

How do they determine the taxes? full rate? or corp rate? this is strange I never ask to pay taxes on award stays in Europe, Asia N America and South America if I were you I will challenge the charges and get refund. ^

They might ask for taxes that are calculated as a flat per person or per room rate, for example some assessments to support the local tourist agency.
