Technical Support and Feedback - FT iPhone app

Is there a way to quickly refresh the messages on the FT iPhone app? I am new to the iPhone world, and recently downloaded the FT app.

When I go to the app, I see the forum messages as I left them during my previous session. They need to reload to get current messages.

The only way I know to refresh the message board is to go out of the forum, and reload. Is there some trick I can pull while in the forum to refresh / reload?

I find the Android app to be worthless. I suspect the same is true for the iPhone version.

Have you tried the mobile version of FT?

I just downloaded the recent update to the iPhone app. It's failing to load the airline programs subforums. I click on airline program, and then nothing comes up.

The recent update does have a means of refreshing the screen. Yay! Just pull it down and it reloads. That's really great.

I had a tough time with the airline program subforums. I found, with some effort, that holding down the little arrow icon would cause the list to load. It's buggy, but eventually I got it to work.

To open subforums, find the small arrow pointing left at the top right corner of the forum; click it so that it points downward, and you'll see the subforums open.

Hmm... definitely not seeing that.

Are you on the current iOS version?

I have iPhone 4 running on AT&T, iOS 5.1 and it's working great.

I wish I could help some more, but maybe you can try deleting the app and reinstalling?

Tried it again after a nice BNE-DRW-BNE break...working tonight.

Still prefer the mobile version, but I'm just about to ditch the iPhone and its horrifically bad battery life for a Nokia Lumia, so the app and I won't be together anyway :)

Hi while using an iPad or iPod I am unable to post in the airline forum at flyertalk. Technical update needed I guess.

Threads merged; please try uninstall/reinstall, as I cannot reproduce the error.

Are you clicking the < arrow so that it points downward and opens the subforums?

If not, what version of phone and iOS software are you running?

A couple of comments and requests and/or suggestions

I do like the chevron for the sub-forums but in the next iteration of the app, is there any chance it can be moved to the left/closer to "Subfourms (xx)" as maybe it's me and my fat fingers ;) but more often than not, I end up hitting the reply button when trying to expand the chevron

Could the subscribe feature at the bottom of the screen moved as again, with my fat fingers and flipping fast to the bottom of the page, I am hitting the button

I do like the go to first unread feature but it doesn't work properly as there is no sync to what I read on-line to what I read on the app as when I use the feature on the app, it takes me anywhere from the first page to the second to last page and never the last unread post I viewed. Also, on a one page thread on the app, if I hit the last unread option, the page does not go to any post at all but rather the "little wheel" just keeps spinning around

Is there anyway to mark forums read as there is with the on-line/browser version?

Also, I have noticed that the app crashes much more than any previous version and usually after I make a post or hit the log out button

Sorry was not clear earlier. When trying to create a new thread, while trying to chose a sun forum in cannot chose from within the airline programs.

I don't think announcements are available on the app -- you're talking about the Dahl Fund and Hotel Pet Peeve ones currently, yes?

As to the button placements, there is so little real-estate to work with on the iPhone screen I'm not sure what can be done that also *looks* good.

On the synch question: the "last read" function is cookie-based, not database-cached, so it will only track what you do on your phone OR computer, but it won't synch them both "per account".

To mark forums read, you must click on them, then the blue dot disappears indicating they are read.

I don't quite understand that. It seems like my PC browser correctly recognizes the last read message from my iPhone, but not vice versa, which is a major annoyance.

Also, the app doesn't list my subscribed forums, just subscribed threads, and there doesn't seem to be a way to move up from a thread to the parent forum. On the whole, the mobile web version is easier for me to use, but the app version looks better and has good potential with just a few more tweaks and bug fixes.

I am unable to create a new thread in a sub-forum. I tried to create a new thread in the AAdvantage forum and when I select the forum it never loads the list of sub-forums. Same problem with Japan subforum too.

Any tips or is this a known issue?

The iPhone app used to take me to my first unread message when I clicked on a thread, but now it always starts from the beginning. Then when I click the strangely named Last Unread button, it jumps to the top of one of the last pages, but usually no where near the spot last read and often not even the right page. In the previous version it was just a sync issue, so it worked okay if you only used the iPhone app. In the current version it seems to be entirely broken.

I'm always amazed when someone not only breaks an app and fails to discover it in testing, but then simply ignores the inevitable slew of negative ratings that follow. They should revert to the previous version or at least post a note saying they're working on the problem. Otherwise many people won't even bother trying it again if they ever fix things.

I've reported this to our mobile developers.

Any progress on fixing the "last unread" button? I pretty much exclusively use FT on iPhone and the button is useless. Also agree on the silliness of having to click another tiny arrow to seethe airline sub forums.

Have nto heard of any plans for an iPad-optimized version at this time. But viewing on the mobile Safari or Chrome browser works great.

Can you post the exact sequence you're trying to do? Screenshots if possible? It's working for me.

I do not have big hands nor fingers but absolutely detest the chevron to open up subforums. It works 1 out of 10 times for me if I am lucky.

Indeed. I simply do not know why this simple fix is taking so long.

It's slated to be fixed in the next app update. Hopefully soon.

The process of updating this is a hard-coding issue with a whole separate piece of software, not related to the FT website. That's why app changes take longer; they are supported by a different dev team, and updates are not made ad-hoc, but according to a batch-friendly method of pushing changes out to the app stores.

Unfortunately this is not going to be available on the iPhone or Android app. At some point perhaps there will be a tablet app; but there's currently no schedule for that development. For now, just use the full site on the tablet's mobile browser.

Try reinstalling with the latest update, still not working? Then may be some technical issue I guess.

I've been frustrated for months with trying to click the silly little arrow to expand the sub forums. Found out today that it works much better if you swipe left to right over the arrow.

It's still far too small however, and pointless if the view just defaulted to the sub forum list.

Does anyone know how I get my picture to show on the iPhone app? It shows up when I go to my profile on the computer, but isn't showing up next to my posts on FT.

Should just show up automatically. I am not sure how you clear your cache on the iphone but... try that?

I actually got it to work. The FT app shows avatar, not picture. So by making the avatar and picture the same, it shows up.
