KLM Flying Dutchman - Event for new Platinum for Life members
I just received an email with an invitation for a special event for ‘new’ Platinum for Life members in the Netherlands (curious why new is within brackets, I am definitely new).
But a really nice gesture from KLM to us, longterm loyal customers ^

I am just one of those that have more than 1 place we call home ;)
(changed my profile accordingly).
No further details yet, not sure if I can make it to the event, but just wanted to report the nice gesture.

Do please keep us updated.

I'm a newly qualified Plat for life, in the NL, and I've recieved nothing.

Maybe they are sending out the invitations in bunches (like they do with the membership cards); I hope you did receive your Plat for Life card in the mail!

Does the card look different to the normal one?
I actually haven't received any confirmation by letter that I'm Plat for life.
I re-qualified last year and that should have made me Plat for Life. At the end of March (last month) when the memberships get reset, my online requirement went from Maintain Plat for 1 year to "maintain Plat for 0 years.
Does this confirm I'm now Plat for life?

Congratulations for your platinum for life, did this invitation have a date or any idea when it would be?

That's great, thanks. So, I know it seems obvious but I just want to check. My online status changed from one year to 0 years last month at the March reset. I assume that means I'm safe and will have Plat for life?

Yes, I know how that feels (confused) - I was in the same situation last year. It is all about being platinum for a full 10 calendar years (with end date 31 March). I qualified in 2010, got the same message by 1 April, 2011 of "maintain plat for 0 years" that you got - this means you qualified for the 10th year of being Platinum. After this 10th year, so for you 1 April, 2013, you will become Plat for Life.
And just to give a pre-warning, based on my experiences over 2011. Don't pay any attention to emails that you get on how many miles you need to qualify for platinum this year or even for reaching platinum for life - these are automatically generated emails and do not take into account that ""you are already there". You may feel even more confused (I was).
Hope I did not confuse you more.... and enjoy the party next year :)

I promised to report back but unfortunately I had to miss the event (I was on vacation). Management of KLM-NL attended the meeting and it also included buffet dinner.
The invitation also mentioned that KLM would hand out a present to the new PFL members. KLM has sent the present by mail. It is a hanger for a necklace with a Delfts huisje (little house) on it, not sure what the men received. It is at my mailing address so I cannot send a picture yet.
It is a very nice gesture ^^
