Do you choose bibimbap or western choice?
Korean Air Skypass - Bibimbap or not!View Full Version : Bibimbap or not! skchin Apr 13, 12, 9:02 am Do you choose bibimbap or western choice? skchin Apr 13, 12, 9:03 am Personally, I've never been disappointed by bibimbap served on-board. But some western meals were under par most of the time. intuition Apr 13, 12, 10:53 am I alternate. But bibimbap have never let me down! mtkeller Apr 13, 12, 11:16 am Just say no to the bulgoki! Flew FRA-ICN-MEL and decided not to have bibimbap on second flight since they offered another Korean main. That was a mistake, as it was rather underwhelming. duke2013 Apr 13, 12, 5:19 pm i always stick with bibimbap HawaiiO Apr 13, 12, 6:09 pm In Y class, get the bibimbap! C class probably the western as the bibimbap is exactly the same as in Y. 123dd Apr 13, 12, 6:51 pm Bibimbap for sure, and ask for more of the chilly paste... HawaiiO Apr 13, 12, 10:57 pm I like the bibimbap but i wish KE would have a different kind of Korean meal in Y OZ offers some beef type dish. flyer31 Apr 15, 12, 6:16 am i always stick with bibimbap +1 canddmeyer Apr 15, 12, 9:18 am Bibimbap for me! djjaguar64 Apr 17, 12, 7:49 am I flew Asiana in J and I was the only foreigner in J who chose the bibimap, all the Korean pax chose the steak. But actually I did not mind it as it was a late flight from ICN to BKK and it was better for digestion instead of the steak at that late hour. But going forward I don't think I will make that selection again. Minos Apr 17, 12, 4:34 pm Bibimbap for sure, and ask for more of the chilly paste... That wasn't toothpaste? I ended up asking the FAs for some potable water in the restroom after using it. :D 123dd Apr 18, 12, 3:56 am That wasn't toothpaste? I ended up asking the FAs for some potable water in the restroom after using it. :D lol.... I also didn't know what it was the first I flew KE, but loved it ever since... landgraf13 Apr 18, 12, 6:03 am I flew Asiana in J and I was the only foreigner in J who chose the bibimap, all the Korean pax chose the steak. I find that rather interesting. I went with the bibimbap on my flights but can honestly say from what I saw in J, the Korean pax all ordered the bibimbap as well. My wife on the other hand chose one meal as the steak (western option) was very sadly disappointed before going back to the bibimbap on the rest of our flights. 123dd Apr 18, 12, 4:28 pm I find that rather interesting. Well, it's normal to assume Koreans are better at their traditional food than western food..... Pathfinder813 Apr 23, 12, 11:37 am Well, it's normal to assume Koreans are better at their traditional food than western food..... also, bibimbap is probably one of the best things that can be made for in-flight food. The "marinated" vegetables can also be banchan and are supposed to be cold as banchan. The beef in it is ground beef just cooked. It's easy to keep cold and then do a quick heat up. The rice is supposed to be microwaved. Really can't go wrong and it's always pretty good. I may be biased since I'm Korean-American, but in terms of in-flight food tasting the same as on the ground, I'd say bibimbap hits the nail on the head (as is bibimgooksoo). Rarely have I ever had any other meals aboard that is the same in the air as on the ground. Far Siren Apr 27, 12, 6:08 am I flew KE only once in my life, and in J class, and my biggest regret has been ordering the Western option over bibimbap... l'etoile May 1, 12, 12:20 pm I have removed a few inappropriate comments from this thread. I always find any pasta or steak served on board overcooked. Still never ordered the bibimbap as it sometimes has fish on it instead of beef. But plane food is plane food. The only remarkable meal was on United (because it was so bad-burnt potatoes. really United?) and ssambap on Asiana. Everything else was mediocre at best. skchin May 10, 12, 6:53 am Still never ordered the bibimbap as it sometimes has fish on it instead of beef. You had fish on your bibimbap? What kind of sick joke is that? Pathfinder813 May 10, 12, 10:32 am IMO some foods should NEVER be served on board a plane, including but not limited to pasta and steak. Maybe stupidhead is confusing Bibimbap with Hoedeopbap(회덥밥). The question is do Korean Airlines serve it? They ask you how you want your steak. You can ask for medium rare. Bibimbap never has fish in it. NEVER. You must be thinking of somethig else. luv2ctheworld May 10, 12, 4:29 pm One of my favorite meals is bibimbap. I love how it can be prepared and mixed at your seat. Get to play a little with your food. And the flavor is great. cityflyer369 May 11, 12, 4:52 am I am a big bibimbab supporter, too. Paella747 May 11, 12, 5:54 am Maybe stupidhead is confusing Bibimbap with Hoedeopbap(회덥밥). The question is do Korean Airlines serve it? They have before, I know that, but haven't flown KE in awhile..... With salmon. Yum. Paella747 May 11, 12, 5:57 am Bibimbap never has fish in it. NEVER. You must be thinking of somethig else. Wellllllll...... It can sometimes! When I order raw salmon on my bibimbap from the Japanese-Korean restaurant on Yongsan South Post...... About once a week at work..... But of course, the first time I ordered it, it took some explaining..... ;) choijw May 11, 12, 6:38 am i've never heard of fish being put on bibimbap ever and ive eaten it throughout my entire life. on KE, i believe bibimbap also acts as the vegetarian choice. so i have not seen it.... in reality, bibimbap can be mixed with anything whether it is (raw/cooked) fish, beef, etc. my favorite is octopus bibimbap. another difficulty is translating hoedeopbap for foreigners. i call it sushi bibimbap. as far as i'm concerned, it's regular bibimbap with raw fish toppings and it's easier for foreigners to understand as well. fiveyflyer May 11, 12, 3:01 pm another difficulty is translating hoedeopbap for foreigners. i call it sushi bibimbap. as far as i'm concerned, it's regular bibimbap with raw fish toppings and it's easier for foreigners to understand as well. I actually didn't know how to romanize the word, but after couple of tries I found it with wikipedia. :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoedeopbap Pathfinder813 May 14, 12, 11:35 am Wellllllll...... It can sometimes! When I order raw salmon on my bibimbap from the Japanese-Korean restaurant on Yongsan South Post...... About once a week at work..... But of course, the first time I ordered it, it took some explaining..... ;) That's yeon-uh-deob-bap (연어덮밥) where yeon-uh means salmon and so the translation for that is Salmon over rice. Hoedeobbap (회덮밥) literally means sashimi over rice. 회 (hoe or hwe) = sashimi, 덮 (deob) = over, 밥 (bap) = rice. At any rate, bibimbap usually is just vegetables and a meat that is mixed with rice whereas hoedeobbap is actually sashimi over rice. I've never heard hwedeobbap referred to as bibimbap, which was the point I was making earlier because while they may look like the same type of dish, there is a distinction. I suppose it's like how some people might say a hamburger isn't a sandwich but to non-Westerners both are the same (meat between bread). HawaiiO May 14, 12, 5:09 pm Just had a yummy stonepot bibimbap today, not on the plane, of course. I like how all the ingredients are laid out nicely in the bowl. stupidhead May 16, 12, 5:42 pm I guess you never tried steak on Asiana. They ask you how you want your steak. You can ask for medium rare. Bibimbap never has fish in it. NEVER. You must be thinking of somethig else. Not in Y. Maybe in Business. Years ago they used to have bibimbap with salmon instead of ground beef and I'm not sure what it said on the menu but I'm pretty sure it said bibimbap. stupidhead May 16, 12, 5:44 pm I suppose it's like how some people might say a hamburger isn't a sandwich but to non-Westerners both are the same (meat between bread). Well not even meat between bread. A sandwich is basically something between bread. Technically a hot dog can be considered a sandwich. sushanna1 May 16, 12, 7:02 pm To return to the topic. KE Bibimbap was my introduction to Korean food. Agree that it "fares" better than most other dishes served on flights. Doc Savage May 16, 12, 7:07 pm Gene Vincent told me to always get the Bibimbap (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDU9FP5_B2M). skchin May 16, 12, 9:05 pm Gene Vincent told me to always get the Bibimbap (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDU9FP5_B2M). :D Who knew bibimbap was in-style during the 60's? patchan8984 May 20, 12, 12:08 pm Does anyone know if there is a difference in the bi bim bap in F and J? intuition May 20, 12, 2:03 pm In F it is served with chopsticks of silver... I know the difference, trust me. ;) But I assure you, when I say I have bibimbap with salmon, it's bibimbap. It's an actual bibimbap from the menu, with all the bibimbap ingredients. Then he slices salmon on top of it. It's different ingredients than when I have him make me a hwedeobbap..... :) Winkdaddy Jul 17, 12, 2:35 pm Does anyone know if there is a difference in the bi bim bap in F and J? Is truly no difference in the bibimbap from economy to Business class? I would imagine (and hope) the quality and portion would be better in Prestige class mikesaidyes Jul 21, 12, 3:50 pm I was on ICN-ATL day flight last Saturday and they switched it up... bibimguksu (cold noodles) for the "dinner" instead of bibimbap and it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay tasty. The "Korean" bulgogi for lunch was meh, honestly. Classic airplane meat. Sad moment for Korean Air. My kimbap tuna triangle was the business, too! Vidic15 Jul 23, 12, 3:11 am Do you choose bibimbap or western choice? Always the Korean choice for me. They seem to put a whole lot more effort into that! patchan8984 Jul 23, 12, 2:07 pm So does anyone know if there is any difference between F, J, Y bibimbap offerings? skchin Jul 23, 12, 2:23 pm So does anyone know if there is any difference between F, J, Y bibimbap offerings? I think presentation, metal chopsticks/spoon, and more banchan. Definately more meat. |
