Japan - International Connecting Flight NRT

Just booked a flight to TPE via NRT. My flights to NRT are on AA and the NRT-TPE and TPE-NRT flight segments are on UA. These airlines are in separate terminals. I have checked Narita's web site and did a search on FT but haven't found out the answer to this question: since I have to change terminals, will I have to go through immigration and customs just to connect between these flights? I have plenty of time on the return ticket to do so but short connection time on the way over.

There is an airside connection bus between the terminals. You will have to go through security but not immigration and customs. Bring a printed copy of your itinerary to show to them to be allowed to go through security prior to immigration.

Take a look at http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/guide/connect/inter/index.html

Thank you. I saw the information on the NRT web site before I posted but it didn't say anything about immigration and customs so your insight is very helpful. I have connected many times in NRT but usually with the same airline. I will be sure to have the itinerary handy and will look for the air side shuttle.

Will you be checking bags? You will only be able to stay airside if your checked luggage is tagged for your final destination (TPE). Not 100% sure if AA and UA have an interline agreement, you need to check on this. If AA can only tag your checked luggage to NRT you will need to clear immigration and customs and check your luggage with UA, in which case you'd have to allow time for this.

Yes, you can interline between AA and UA.
