National - Extra billed hour = extra day for status?

(I tried searching and read through the FAQ, but didn't find an answer for this question.)

Hey everyone. I'm currently auditing my likely rental plans for the year, and in particular, I'm trying to determine how easily I can renew executive status. I've already had several cases where I accidentally ran past the grace period on a rental and got charged an extra hour (not a full day). Does anybody know if that one extra hour counts as a full day for the 40 needed to renew executive status?

And actually, while I'm asking, a separate question. I've read that free days count toward renewing status. Do they count toward the number of rentals, as well as the number of days? For example, if I have four free days, should I try to spread them out into four rentals and get 1/3 of the total needed for Exec status?

Thanks in advance...

E

I don't think that being charged one extra hour will count as one additional day for status - don't know for sure though.

I qualify/requalify by number of rentals and not usually days - at least in the past year rentals on free days count for status.

I also have used free days to attain status. If you use them one day at a time, you'll get more rental credits and rentals out of it.

Thanks for the input. I realized that I could also check my old statement emails to see how many days I have, and the rental for 4d+1h did indeed credit for only 4 days. It appears that you need to pay the full-day rate for it to count for status purposes.

(That extra hour got hit with all the extra taxes/fees associated with having it an extra day, and the full-day rate isn't that much more, so maybe I'll just try to be 2 hours late in the future.)

That would be your best bet... The extra hour fee is typically about 50% of a day. Just make a reservation scheduled for say, 4 days + 3 hours and it should automatically bill it as 5 days. (Of course you have to stick to these times and not bring it back early.)
