Virgin Australia Velocity - Virgin and New Zealand

Virgin seems to be 're launching' in NZ. This is what the blurb says

So last year when I flew Virgin Blue in September 2011 Wellington to Australia, it was in an old plane, all economy seats, except for the first two rows which were sort of premium economy - same seats, but free food, free entertainment - digi player, and the middle seat had a table on it. Flying premium economy, I got to use the lounges in Sydney and Wellington - the biggest bonus as far as I was concerned.

Does anyone have any idea what the new service is except for new uniforms for the crew and re-painted planes? It looks like business as usual to me, except, maybe I wouldn't get lounge access as I am a low level velocity member.

I believe its just revamping it to the same standards as the Australian Domestic standard.

Just did a flight with DJ to Wellington booked on Virgin website as a DJ flight econflex flight. But did not check the colour coded box which turned out to be AirNZ (works = DJ econflex).

Found out that all Wellington > Sydney and vice versa are AirNZ and Brisbane > Wellington are serviced by DJ.

AirNZ is a smart move for Virgin as their trans tasman is all economy but with food and entertainment options as I understand it ... and they are good.

I can now book flights all the way from Wellington to Chicago via the internet. When I tried to book the trans tasman by itself, it implied that if I went via Brisbane in Premium economy, i would still have lounge access. Great that they have fixed this.:D
