Hello - I'm a frequent reader but not a poster. If anyone can offer advice I'd appreciate it.

I am trying to help a family friend who needs to fly from JNB-SFO for a conference July 18-Aug. 6. She would like to stopover in Boston for 4-5 days to visit my family either before the conference or after the conference.

What is the best way for her to go about finding the best deal with the stopover included? How can I best help with the routing and pricing?

She will need to eventually book this herself and she is not technologically sound in many ways... so I am trying to spoon feed her an itinerary that she can easily book.

Thanks to anyone who is willing to take a look.

Long trip. Long event. Don't use "conference" in the US anymore, it's a bad word.

What's her tolerance for stopover in Europe v. direct from JNB to JFK / IAD?

What passport(s) does she hold? Will she need visa(s)? Get cracking.

My personal preference (I'm not her, I have no idea what the events in SFO are) would be to put BOS visit on the back side of the trip so that she could redeye to BOS, relax for a few days before gearing up for the trip back. Yeah she could go via Europe from SFO but she'd still be in for a European layover and then another long flight EUR-JNB. If she were with SAA she'd be camping out in IAD for a while after SFO to IAD waiting for the evening SAA flight back or jumping from a SFO-JFK redeye right onto the morning flight out of JFK back to JNB (body clock, meet Mr. Crazytime).

That time in August is also nice weather for the Cape (Cod) or something.
