My visa will expire in March 2013. I am looking at a five day trip at the end of November 2012. Does Brazil have any special requirements with respect to the allowed upcoming expiration period of a Visa.

Under the terms of a tourism Visa I would need to leave the country within 90 days or before the Visa expires anyway but I don't want to assume this would allow me to use the current Visa for late November trael.

US citizen with a Brasilian Visa expiring in March 2013. IIRC Brazil will not accept a passport within six months of expiration that is why I ask.

U.S. passport holders with a Brazilian visa are usually given an entry (prazo) of 90 days, renewable at the Policia Federal in Brazil for another 90 days, for a total of 180 days. Therefore, you must have 180 days left on your visa.

Brazilian authorities are acting on the supposition that you will stay for the maximum time that you can. There is really no way to prove to their satisfaction that you are going to stay for any less time. (Any booked travel arrangements can easily be changed.)

Here's to the day, hopefully very soon, when visas are no longer neccessary for Brazilians or U.S. citizens to go back and forth between our countries.

Dilma brought this up with Obama during her recent trip to DC.... me thinks its only a matter of time, I think that before Xmas Brazil will be a fresh new member of the Visa Waiver Program.

I'm hoping but it was reported that he would only agree to opening more processing centers in Brazil, speeding up the process and stop some of the over intrusive questioning that goes on by US processors. But Dilma and Obama seem to really like each other so eventually maybe, particularly if Obama gets reelected.
