Not sure if this is old or new news....

http://www.centreforaviation.com/blogs/aviation-blog/allegiant-air-to-enter-hawaii-market-in-june-with-honolulu-flights-to-fresno-and-las-vegas-71474

Allegiant Air on 29-Jun-2012 will realise its ambition for Hawaii services with the launch of thrice-weekly services to Honolulu from its Las Vegas hub and then weekly Fresno-Honolulu service on 30-Jun-2012, both on 757-200s, according to schedules filed in global distribution systems. Allegiant first announced in 2010 its intentions to serve Hawaii, but has been involved in a protracted effort to acquire aircraft with the range to make the flight and also regulatory approval for ETOPS operations. Allegiant in Mar-2012 had reaffirmed its commitment to launch Hawaiian services in Jun-2012 and will just barely achieve that, launching a month into the popular northern hemisphere summer season.

Allegiant had acquired six 757-200s, complementing its existing fleet of MD-80s workhorses, for Hawaiian services but during the extended regulatory process leased two of the aircraft out. Local reports indicate that Allegiant is still awaiting final approval that will be contingent on ETOPS proving flights to be performed in the coming weeks.

Since Alegiant is not a "Hawaii-based Airline," I'll move this to the appropriate forum while leaving a 30-day re-direct here for the convenience of our members.

This is the announcement finally happening (although it was no secret that Allegiant would start Hawaii service).

Besides the initial cities of Fresno and Las Vegas, I expect we will see other cities to Hawaii announced in coming weeks.

Even with a minimum $40 r/t seat selection charge, $35 carry-on bag and checked bag charge, fares still represent a significant savings over other options for the Fresno market. With no interline agreement, however, connecting to another island besides Oahu will be a pain.

more competition is a good thing for me...although it doesn't sound like i want to fly on allegiant...i'm just hoping for hawaiian to match

Wow! That's cheap, huh? I don't think they can do that but, it's little bit expensive.

Yes, it will get more tougher competition against HA out of LAS. HA had 3 daily RT from LAS-HNL and once-weekly service from LAS-OGG, too.

The choice of LAS is interesting since although LAS is a major "hub", Allegiant doesn't allow connecting itineraries. So either they're banking on point-to-point traffic in that market, or they're getting ready to start allowing connections.

It would seem like a logical step, to allow someone to connect from Bismarck or Great Falls (for example) through LAS to HNL. Otherwise I suspect Allegiant's Hawaii service will be mostly limited to California airports, plus maybe Bellingham and Phoenix (and LAS, obviously).

Allegiant's 3x weekly presence on LAS-HNL won't affect HA much, if at all on the outset. If anything, they'd be competing with the Omni/Boyd Gaming charters for LAS-bound flyers looking for price-attractive air/hotel packages.

true that...still that means that vacation hawaii(boyd gaming) will have to offer way better package deals....

i once got vacations hawaii package for 350 for air, food hotel for 5 nights...from hnl to las....

still i'm guessing that HA's hnl to las takes a bit of a hit and will drop the prices to the upper 300s consistently....there is a reason why they call Las vegas the 9th hawaiian island..

This is fantastic news. I have been hoping for new Hawaii entrants for the last few years since I go there yearly. I just hope Southwest jumps in this year.
