U.K. and Ireland - Anyone have an existing Vodafone account?

Awhile back I purchased an iPhone 4 which turned out to be locked with Vodaphone. I had a feeling the guy was lying when he said it was locked with AT&T, but I was going to unlock it with Gevey sim so it didn't really matter. I recently found out that Vodafone is willing to unlock iPhone 4 if you are an existing customer. Since I currently live in the states though I'm not a Vodafone customer. My question is if anyone on the forums from the UK that has a Vodaphone account can fill the request form with my iPhone's info. I'm willing to send you some Pound Sterling/USD/Euro for the hassle via PayPal, I just want my phone unlocked.

Let me see if I understand you correctly, phatrabbitzz. As I see it, you are trying to bribe a UK resident to make a false declaration for your benefit.

Why can you not send an email to Vodafone (please note the correct spelling), explain your situation and ask for their advice and help?

Come to that, why on earth would any sensible person buy anything without knowing all the pertinent details beforehand? Who buys a mobile phone without checking which network it was connected to?

The expression "caveat emptor" springs to mind.

Based on what I've read on Vodafone forums they won't respond to my request unless I am an existing monthly paying customer. The only other solution is that I buy a prepaid sim and carry a balance greater than 20 pounds, and one can only buy a sim from Vodafone with a uk address, unless I buy one from eBay and recharge it. Even then I'm not sure how great that'll work but that's my last resort...

I initially bought the phone to use it overseas so it didn't matter that the phone was locked with another carrier since I was going to unlock it using Gevey sim which is how the phone is currently being used. However I prefer to have it factory unlocked so I can update the iOS without buying new Gevey sims.

Glad the spelling police joined my thread...

I'm not trying to evade any questions, but would rather not open a can of worms with Vodafone UK prior to having everything I need to have them unlock the phone. Below is a post I found that relates to my situation which makes me think that if I purchase an activated PAYG vodafone sim with 20GBP I could submit the form with the UK number even though I am outside the UK and get it unlocked. Unlike the last poster in that thread that mentioned that he got the phone outside the UK and is living outside the UK and the Vodafone representative just shut him down.

Try here to get a Vodafone SIM topped up & shipped to you internationally:

I can't say whether this will allow you to unlock the phone, however!
