Again this year there will be €1 ticket prices to Italy's State Museums in honor of the Primo Maggio holiday.
The English language voice of MiBAC (http://twitter.com/#!/MiBAC_Culture)(Ministero Per I Beni E Le Attivitΰ Culturali) tweeted this last week giving a link to MiBAC's participating venues in 2010 (presumably, the current info will be added to MiBAC's site eventually). But you can scroll through the list of venues from 2010 to get an idea of where you'll have access for €1 throughout Italy:
1° maggio: 1 euro per 1 museo nei luoghi statali della cultura (http://www.beniculturali.it/mibac/export/MiBAC/sito-MiBAC/Contenuti/MibacUnif/Eventi/visualizza_asset.html_2136680739.html)
Here's the current MiBAC page for 1 May, 2012, perhaps those interested should bookmark this page and check back for updates:

And for those visiting Rome, the annual massive (and free) Concerto Primo Maggio will again be held in Piazza San Giovanni.
Here's a post from the 06Blog.it on Primo Maggio in Rome (in Italian):
1° maggio 2012 a Roma: al museo con 1 euro (http://www.06blog.it/post/13893/1-maggio-2012-a-roma-al-museo-con-1-euro)
And here's their post on the concert itself:

Lastly, here's the link to the concert's dedicated website (there's a VERY exuberant video showing the crowd from last year - if you're at work turn your volume down before clicking on this ;) )
http://www.primomaggio.com/
And from that same site, here's the google map of the piazza where the concert will take place:

(I've only been in Rome once before for May Day, and being crowd-phobic I enjoyed watching the concert - on TV from the comfort of my hotel room. :D )
Edited to add this link which provides some additional info on the free concert:
