200 drunken students have 'mass brawl' and rampage on ferry to Calais (http://travel.aol.co.uk/2012/04/09/200-drunken-students-have-mass-brawl-and-rampage-on-ferry-to-calais/)
I've crossed the Channel many times and (fortunately) have not had this happen!

Many of the 1,559 passengers on board the 2.20am P&O Spirit of France crossing were put in a secure room for their own safety as the students streaked, overturned tables, set ashtrays on fire, and smashed glasses.

According to crew, the 'loutish behaviour' culminated in a mass brawl at the bar.

I would take the article with a huge pinch of salt, rwoman.

How many of the "1,559 passengers" could be put "in a secure room for their own safety"? How big are cabins on a cross channel ferry, and how "secure" could they be?

Best wishes and safe crossings!

Edit:: I have just noticed that the source of this story is the "Sun" newspaper. 'Nuff said!!

Some high spirited jinks.

Just normal behaviour by students.

Well, they've been banned (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-17656624) from travelling back with P&O.

I bet the ski resort that they were heading to is having fun with them

Ski resort will be happy with the money. Quite possibly heading to some kind of student ski fest, if it's anything like the football ones I went on then behaviour will be outweighed by profit. (Actually I don't remember seeing people doing anything like that in front of normal people, just playing football in Calais ferry terminal at 4am and somebody going up a light pole at Dublin Port)

I do wonder why they were wasting good drinking time rampaging around in circles though. Kids these days.

Yep still high spirited jinks....that's what happens when the young have too much alcohol.

I don't agree with it but there was no real harm done and is still a damn sight better than mugging old age pensioners, stealing cars and breaking into peoples houses.

Well yes, but isn't that setting the bar extraordinarily low? ;)
