I am flying from MEM to FAI from Aug. 10-16. There's a united flight that is through DEN. Does anyone know of a way to get a lengthy layover in Denver (long enough to get to a Rockies game, so almost a day layover)? I know I can do a multi city, but that may end up costing more. Any thoughts? Sorry if there is already a thread on getting long layovers and I missed it. Thanks!

Any travel agent can do that for you. I don't know if you can do it online without doing a multi-city. Try asking in the United forum.

For most airlines, if you have a connection longer than 4 hours then it will need to be priced as a stopover. Airlines do that to prohibit exactly what you are trying to do.

The only exception you can sometimes find is if you are flying in on the last flight of the evening, you may have to connect to the first flight the next morning... that way you get your overnight.

Looking quickly at multi city on United, it doesn't look like this will cost more (actually it looks like it may cost less) than just a round trip.

If you leave Fairbanks at midnight, you get into Denver at 7 the next morning, stay all day, catch the evening game, and leave Denver the morning after actually works out to be about $52 less than a regular round trip.
