Hi...I have "two free tickets" due to an overbooking and VDB situation. They are good system-wide. Into which fare bucket do these book? I'd love to look for availability before calling to book. Thanks for your help.

You have to call since VDB vouchers are "capacity controlled" as explained on the denied boarding card. Technically, they fall in an OO fare which is an internal use voucher fare.
My experience is that the A+ CSR's will go out of their way to get you what you need when redeeming VDB's
In my experience the availability matches the lowest reward fare bucket for coach (8 A+ reward credits per one way), which you can easily check online. That is, if there's an 8 A+ reward credit flight on each one way of your flight, they'll let you book it with VDB.

Yes and no....
The OP needs to explain his needs to an A+ CSR. If there is a way to get it done, she will make it so.

A little off-track, but I heard someone talking about a CRD certificate. What is it, and is availability the same as VDB vouchers?

With the talk of the merger, any word on what will happen to those of us holding AT VDB vouchers expiring in 2013? Any possibility of these vouchers eventually becoming valid for redemption on Southwest flights?

That was definitely not my experience when I got two VDB certificates about 6 years ago - all I ever got was "sorry, there's no availability on those dates."
Assuming they're still fully transferrable, my advice to the OP is to sell them on eBay, that's what I ended up doing.

Sounds like you were talking reservations and not to one of A+ CSR's. They were different at one point..now I sometimes speak with the same rep on both lines.
If you get an experienced A+ CSR she will usually find a way to help. If you want to do a west coast trip on 24 hours notice, it may be difficult but if you give them something to work with, they will help.
AFAIK, the VDB's are not supposed to be transferable. The party to whom the were issued needs to do the traveling.

This has been my experience. Got 3 on one trip and wanted to fly somewhere with a buddy and let him use one, but I have to use all three trips. That said, availability is usually the same as for A+ coach tickets, but Mrs. Cooger has had success getting them to open up space even when it's not officially "available". Not 100% success rate, but asking nicely will get you a long way, in my (or at least her) experience.
