Qatar Airways Privilege Club - JFK DOH - In-flight service and recommended sleep times

I'm flying JFK DOH soon and am curious about the way the in-flight service is structured.

Since the flight leaves shortly before midnight, I'm assuming most passengers would want to press the bed button and go to sleep shortly after take-off.

That's my standard practice on most TATL flights but this is longer than what I usually fly (6-8 hours v. 12).

What do people here recommend in terms of when to eat and when to sleep? Also, when does the cabin crew offer meals (i.e. at what point during the flight)? Finally, can you easily schedule a different time to dine if you want to sleep first (presuming there is a conflict)?

Thanks in advance.

QR offers Dine anytime eating, usually they offer you to choose from that menu at the beginning of the flight and then will ask you if you will have breakfast which is around an hour and half before landing maybe later sometimes.

Essentially it is upto you when you want the dinner, I have requested to eat at random times when everyone else is asleep on a 10 hour flight with QR. So its not a big deal.

Here is a link provided with what the indulgence menu section looked like a for a flight from DOH-KIX

Here is a typical QR breakfast menu:

Hope that helps you out a little bit more.

Hi. We are very familiar with flying this route. The longer the flight the better, with Qatar Airways, especially when you're being looked after in Business Class. As Omar mentioned, you may dine when you like; just make this clear to the cabin crew when they come to take your dining preferences.

From the US to Doha, you'll probably spend the first 2 1/2 hours enjoying a movie and having dinner. If you're ending your trip in Doha, we would advise you get to sleep right after the movie and try your best to wake up at least 2-3 hours before landing. This will help you get to sleep later in the evening, after your nighttime arrival in Doha. So, ideally, you'll get 1 1/2 meals, 2 movies, and about 5-6 hours of sleep. That would maximize the journey, in our view.

Going back is a day-flight, so 3 movies and nice food & beverage for much of the flight can be expected. The service and entertainment are often too good to fall asleep on that sector (though 2-3 hours of sleep should be easily do-able).

Enjoy the journey with us. Be sure to try the hot baked chocolate chip cookies (get them while their fresh out of the oven -- nice and soft), and a cool glass of milk. Have a great trip!

I'm flying in business JFK-DOH-DEL. So do most people follow this strategy or not? It would seem that leaving so late, we might have dinner earlier at home or at the airport and want to go to sleep around midnight which is shortly after takeoff. But that's hard to do if there's an inflight dinner service going on for most people in the cabin. On the other hand, I'm someone who likes to look out the window, so it would be nice to spend most of my time sleeping while it is dark out.

I ended up not following this strategy.

I went to sleep. There was very little service activity in the cabin, at least not enough to disturb my sleep.

The only thing I don't like about JFK-DOH is that is leaves from the American terminal. The service (on the ground) is sub par, and I've had to fight my way into the American lounge (because they thought I was not allowed in).

Really?. I hold a J class ticket.

Other than that I like when it leaves and arrives.

I understand the move to T8, the former terminal was a zoo.

For the QR flight, you are invited to the Flagship Lounge (not the Admirals Club). I don't doubt your word but there are several dozen busines-class passengers every day leaving for Doha and each has FL access. Did this happen more than once?

Yes, fully aware of the Flagship Lounge. Someone here compiled a list of the lounges, which I corrected.

The lounge dragon at front kept telling me I needed a membership, then old me that the Flagship Lounge is for International First Class Passengers only. To be fair, this happened when QR first moved to Terminal 8.
