I left a Kindle on an American Airlines flight once, and only remembered after I got to my hotel. I didn't even put in an item lost report, figuring it was a lost cause. About two months later, I was very surprised to get the Kindle in the mail! Of course I had bought a new one in the meantime... but now my wife has her own Kindle too.

Left my phone behind on the seat of a Westjet flight. Needless to say, it was never seen again.

I accidentally left my winter coat in a Hertz Rental Car in Houston, TX a couple months back (while it was winter) en route to MSP. I blame sleep deprivation - it had been an exhausting week of meetings and I was dashing to catch a flight that was already boarding when I was just trying to get through security.
I figured out my coat was missing just as I reached my seat and realized I was going to be landing at 9pm with near zero air temps to greet me as I hiked to my car parked outdoors. I the Hertz IAH Lost and Found several times (luckily had time before they closed the boarding door) until someone picked up.
Hertz Lost & Found in wasn't able to get it to me (on the other side of security) but were willing to ship it back to me if I provided a credit card to pay the shipping fees. My coat reached me safely a few days later.

In February I flew Cape Town to Windhoek on Air Namibia. As I was waiting at the Hertz counter landside in the arrivals hall, one of the Air Namibia cabin crew came running up to me and handed me my Bose QC15 headphones that I'd accidentally left in the seat back. Now that's customer service!

I always seem to lose something on every trip! Luckily, it's usually something small and not worth a lot of money, but I did lose a pair of really expensive earrings on one trip. I'm pretty sure those weren't really "lost" though, if you know what I mean.:(

................most common items left on an aircraft? Passports, ID's (driver license) clothing items and phones.

My drivers license slipped out of my pocket on a flight from PHX to DFW on AA, a few years back. As I had a tight connection, I had quickly made my way to the gate, which was in a different terminal. I had just settled down and was enjoying a PD Bloody Mary when she came on board just to hand it to me. I was most appreciative.

Cellphone---numerous times. Was able to have it retrieved. On one occasion, Inreaised after I had left the secure area in MSY. There was no way for me to get back to the gate as the security gate was not staffed---too late in the might for any departures. There were no more passengers coming out. I was able to communicate with a NW pilot with he and I straddling the LINE. HE went back and retrieved it for me.
Wallet- A couple of times,. but managed to get it back.
My son's DS lite--We got it back
My cellphone charger--left it in the lounge. The cleaning crew found it and turned it over to the lounge staff, who threatened to send it to TSA as it could be a b0m8, unless I picked it up in person within 24 hours.. I talked to a supervisor on the PE elite line, who authorised refund of purchase pricve of a new one and arranged to have the old one shipped to my address. I miss Northwest.

Luggage damaged in transit-- had a 4-5 inch hole in it. Lost laptop charger, an expensive electric toothbrush and an expensive Swiss army knife. Had to buy everything new.

Security, pre-TSA lost my meds before we boarded the MEM-AMS flight. Had to buy my meds in Vienna. Sent the bill to Northwest Airline,s who paid it promptly.

I didn't loose anything during my travel and I am pretty lucky in this way. However once on the way to Boston, my trip companion lost his wallet with all of his money along with it including visa card a some coupons.

Good reminder everybody, put your name and contact info on stuff like the kindle, phones, etc just in case you do leave it.

We were on a Kiwi flight back in the days of Kiwi, and as we were boarding they asked if it would be OK if we checked the backpack I was carrying, as space was tight, it would come off first, etc. I totally forgot there was a small camera in the side pocket of the bag, which was not in the bag when we picked it up. Filled out the form (didn't really care about the camera, but wanted the three dozen pictures), figured it was a lost cause.

Two and a half weeks later I got a call that they were doing something in the luggage hold and off in the corner was a camera that matched the description I gave them. They could ship it to me, but as luck would have it we were flying them in a few days. It was waiting for us at the check in counter.

I miss Kiwi sometimes.

Left a camera in a rental car at JFK. Was in the Flagship Lounge for a couple of hours before I realized what I had done.

The AAngel secured my carryon and I shot out of T8 to the train to the rental car facility.

They had my camera in a secure place. :)

On a NWA flight MSP - New Orleans I went to bathroom took off my ruby ring to wash my hands. Got to my hotel and washed my hands - no ring. Called every possible nu ber. No luck.

Worst part was it was a ring my father was given by his parents at age 14. My Dad gave it to me when I was 25. Couldn't even bring myself to tell my father for years.

Very sad.

Left a camer in the seat pocket on Southwest. I contacted them promptly but never got it back. It's a shame, I really liked that camera, an its replacement now has a real PITA problem with dust on the sensor. :(

Two data points, both with successful endings

I have a scarf I always travel with (doubles as a blanket) and have had for a good number of years. flew ord-pvg last year. Did not notice it was missing until I unpacked at the hotel later that night. The next morning, the concierge at the hotel called the lost and found airline services and they had it. I signed a voucher that allowed the hotel to send a cab to the airport and it was on my desk when I returned to the hotel later in the day.

Second item. My husband left his jacket on a flight from hkg-syd and we noticed after picking up our luggage at baggage claim. We were returning to the airport on a connecting flight a couple of days later and the we were able to retrieve it in the airline office.

We do now as part of travel planning, put a business card in pockets of coats. It was a good idea to have identification on your clothing and items when you were a kid, and probably just as good an idea as an adult!

My iPad is currently sitting in the USAir PHL office, waiting on a FedEx account number from me to find its way home.

A couple of years ago my daughter lost her beloved stuffed Snoopy at NRT (presumably in a bathroom). We realized that after getting on the bus. Called the airport's lost and found after arriving at the hotel but no luck.

When she came back from the trip, a new Snoopy from "Mr. Charles Schultz" was waiting for her. She still keeps that one.

Left my Fitbit in LAS on Sunday night.
Normally, it's attached to my clothing but I was futzing with it, set it in my lap, blah blah blah, stood up to board my flight and just walked away from it.
Happy ending though - I emailed Fitbit and whimpered a little. My complimentary replacement is winging its way to me. I miss my little buddy.

In true FT fashion, I decided to connect through PHL Monday instead of waiting for it to be shipped.
