Virgin Atlantic Flying Club - How to get 10,000 Flying Club Miles out

All,
I'm a relative newbie with frequent flying and award travel. From a previous trip, I have ~10,000 Flying Club miles. I'd like to get them out because we won't be flying Virgin likely in the next year and they expire in July. We are flying to Asia in the winter and likely on United // ANA and partners.
I've tried to look around at points.com but they do not seem to have an option to trade Flying Club for United miles. Can anyone offer some advice so that these miles don't go to waste?

You can get 2 Hilton points for each Virgin point. I'd move them into Hilton if I were you.

Virgin says transfers to HHonors can take up to 30 days :( Does it really take that long?

I just did a conversion last week and it took 48 hrs.

It looks like HHonors only transfer in 10,000 point increments.
Any way to get 6,000 points out? I tried searching their website but did not find it very user friendly
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

6k miles wont get you anything - other than 3 miles plus money tickets in economy (subject to availability)
You might want to consider buying 4k miles but even then it might not make it worthwhile.
The alternative if you really arn't going to be flying VS or earning them via CC spend is to donate them to the VS charity.

Of course, any activity once every 36 months will keep your miles alive. If you have Amex MR, you could transfer 1000 miles over when you get close to three years.
You could also donate some small amount of miles to virgin charity once every three years too to keep the miles alive.

Virgin also have a shopping portal, which you can use to earn a few extra miles to keep your account alive, next time you do some internet shopping: http://shop.virgin-atlantic.com/shop/
