Russia - Transaero or S7?
Does anyone have a preference for either of these? I'll be booking a trip DME-MRV for May. The Siberian flight is "operated by Globus LLC" if that helps.
These seem to be the only options for nonstops.
Thanks,
JimS

I'd go by price and/or schedule - experience should be fairly similar. Globus is a subsidiary of S7, but overall not very different. Seating might be a tad tighter on their 737s, but overall it's quite OK. I haven't taken Transaero, but Ms. ParisMoskau has, and was - a bit to my surprise - quite happy with the experience.

Hey. c7 will cost more than Transaero, but the quality is better on flights c7. By the way, the most beautiful stewardesses in Russia it is the airline c7))))))))))))))))

No problems for us on S7. Qualifies for AA miles as well. On all of our flights at least one FA spoke good English, although they all knew some.

A couple of weeks back I flew S7 (at least one leg was Globus) DME to KEJ. Flight out was on a new Airbus- great flight. Return flight was on an old 737-400. Perhaps the worst flight I have had in the last decade...
I have flown UN a number of occasions, mostly in short-haul J but also in Y a number of times LHR-DME and even once DME-JFK. I find UN to be acceptable. Seat pitch in the back of Y is a bit cramped, though the "premium economy" cabin (full-fare Y) is much better. Food in Y is generally poor (if you care), and the service otherwise rather basic (save the free Russian sparkling wine each passenger got once when I flew on Day of the Defenders' of the Fatherland). FAs are generally young and inexperienced, but helpful. The only mileage program of which I am aware on which UN flights earn miles (besides its own) is BD Diamond Club. English fluency amongst FAs can be uneven, but should be adequate (though they are often relieved to speak Russian!).
I only have one experience on S7, and that was in J. As noted, however, S7 is a OneWorld member and thus flights will both earn miles and the OP would receive status benefits, if any.
If in J, note that UN seats are likely superior--more like US domestic F or Aeroflot short-haul J, whereas my experience with S7 was more typical European short-haul J (i.e., blocked middle seat).
As others have noted, select the best combination of price, schedule, mileage accumulation and alliance (OW) status benefits.
Either S7 or UN is likely better than my experience in 2010 on Donavia flying MRV-SVO on a Tu-154 in Y.
