Luxury Hotels - Gravetye Manor or something near Gatwick
We are travelling to Sveti Stefan this summer and coming from California. We come into Heathrow and need to overnight and catch the early morning BA flight at Gatwick. ( we are choosing to go BA to Dubrovnik with the pick up by Aman vs Montenegro airlines to Tivat unless someone can give the latter a thumbs up).
We don't want to go into town as we arrive in the afternoon and leave early morning. Has anyone stayed at Gravetye Manor recently? When we lived in London we went for lunch once, but never stayed. I hear it has been refurbed and I don't know of anything else decent near Gatwick. Any recommendations? Any specific rooms or other hotel options? We would like a nice dinner and best place we can stay not far from Gatwick. Thanks in advance for advice!

Langshott Manor is less than 10 minutes to LGW. Wonderfully historic hotel. Ask for a room in the Moat Mews, just off the main house. Excellent restaurant. Make dinner Res when you book.

Gravetye spent millions in renovations, and spent it well. Good refurbishmrnts and updates. Glorious gardens.
Just checked and Langshott Manor is booked the one night we need! Any other thoughts? I am thinking Gravetye or there is also something called summer lodge hotel? Seems to be affiliated with penny hill park which I did stay in when living in London. I am definately open to suggestions!

I like Penny Hill Park; great for LHR and excellent spa. Check Ockenden Manor. Michelin Star restaurant too. About 20 minutes to LGW. If Gravetye is available, why keep looking?

Still leaning toward gravetye manor but just having a hard time finding good reports, just heard its been rennovated.
Love any more suggestions for one night near Gatwick if there are any!
we stayed there a couple of years ago before the refurbishment and loved it...are eagerly planning to return. The food was worth the journey and the gardens fabulous. Only hitch...you may wish you had more than one night.
If you go, be aware that we found it hard to find in spite of the instructions. It is close to Gatwick: we drove to Gatwick, turned in the rental car, and took the Express into London.

I completely agree that it is hard to find. We stayed there 2 years ago before the refurb. The house just oozes charm as do the gardens, despite the fact that the condition could have been better kept.
We found the food and the room it was served in to be totally underwhelming and the service was rude...no one to greet you on arrival, sigh of disgust when asked for help with bags and a 1970s trouser press mounted to the wall instead of an iron or a pressing service. The room was in desperate need of renovation, with carpet in the bathroom, but the bones of the room such as the leaded casement windows were beautiful. I hear the new owners have done a good job. Having looked at the new website, the renovated rooms look beautiful, but I don't know that all of them have been renovated... I would suggest you ask if you book there.

I've heard good things about Alexander House, near LGW, but haven't been there.

I was going to say Langshott Manor, but see it is booked - pity, as it is really close and not at all bad. I would go to Gravetye as it has new owners now and has just undergone a massive refurb. I have not stayed since, though, but hear it's much improved. Nothing else nearby is worth looking at IMHO. Oh, what about Coworth Park? Bit further, but very good

Thanks for feedback everyone. Since Langshott is booked, we will try Gravetye. Coworth Park looks great, but I think a bit far. Since we have Aman Sveti Stefan and Amanruya to look forward to the following two weeks it should be fine for one night! I will make sure to request a refurbished room overlooking the gardens!

Hi Larkin,
You might also consider just hopping on the Gatwick Express and heading to the Lanesborough or FS Park Lane for one night. Considering the duration of your stay and if you are celebrating a special location, you might get a great upgrade.
