KLM Flying Dutchman - Leniency on the 23Kg check-in baggage of Schiphol for Economy passengers

Dear all,
I was wondering how lenient KLM are on their 23 Kg economy tickets at Schiphol (I know all out stations are different, hence I wrote Schiphol) for their Platinum member for Intra-European flights? For example if you came with a 25 Kg would they care? As anyone tried 32 Kg for economy tickets with platinum?

Thanks,
SB

They strictly enforce it. Maximum 23KG per bag, 2 bags free for Plat.

Extremely strict - to the absurd:

Checking in with 2 Plats and 4 bags we actually had to move stuff from one bag (25kg) to another (18kg) - the other 2 bags were also around 20 kg, so the total weight was by far less that the total allowance. The staff told us it was because of weight distribution within the plane and when I asked them if that did not matter when the allowance was 30kg she did not respond.

As long as you pay the heavy bag surcharge you can bring it no problems what so ever :D

Thats nice to know. I am definitately weighing my bags next time. I checked in a 22.5KG bag yesterday, and I didnt realised it until I was in the airport. Good to know that I should be careful next time.

Happy Easter!

Never had that experience before with a +/- 25 kg bag.

I recently had a suitcase that was 1 KG more and they let it go. But they are indeed strict, as are other airlines and at other airports.

I have silver status with BA, and I recently flew LHR-JFK in economy. My bag was 29.9kg and they barely mentioned it - no surcharge, no nothing. It's the only time I think I've been overweight on any airline.

We're discussing about KLM .. ! Not BA !! Besides, you are allowed 2 pieces of 32kg for BA SILVER AND GOLD , same if you're AA PLAT and EXEC PLAT... worldwide. If you had NO status and you're in economy... trust me, BA check in staff will let you know about your excess !!

KLM is very strict with the baggage allowance. 23kg is that. But I find that the 'older' the check in agent is, and if you're about 24-24.5 kg, they let you get away with it. I once had a very young new agent and he absolutely will not let me get away with 24 kg !! I just went away and came round to another more mature agent and she didn't say a word and checked me in.
