Yesterday I checked fares for the CPT-JNB sector on SAA and it turns out that the lowest fare (G) increased from R990 to R1072 (it has consistently been R990 for quite some time, I think). Meanwhile, Mango had a sale a few days back, whereas Kulula sells their late evening flight on this route for as little as R499. It is a little surprising to me that SAA chooses to ignore the competition so much; BA operated by Comair also has lower fares, or does that mean that the low cost carriers may follow the trend, too? I started checking SAA fares only recently (it seems there was a fare war last year, is it over now that one of the carriers went bankrupt?).
