Virgin Australia has poured cold water on speculation that it's planning to join the Star Alliance group of airlines, with CEO John Borghetti suggesting that, if anything, SkyTeam could be a better fit.

I think DJ is a right choice to join SkyTeam alliance. It will have a great addition to join the ST. It is a logical choice for me.

Do you really think screamteam has anything other than the Delta codeshare to offer VA?

Look at where VA flies internationally and look at where the screamteam airlines are....not much of an overlap. High costs to connect with new routes and a lot of integration to move from the flight and booking system they have changed to.

OOPS!! Didnt realize that the system NZ and VA share are the same...what a coincidence!

Skyteam offers a lot more then DL for example the huge chinese market.Plus there are rumours that EY and AF are working on a partnership and since Virgin and EY are already working toghter this might also be a sign.

SkyTeam could bring connecting passengers from Asia to VA. Yes, SQ is doing that now, but SkyTeam has a lot of Asian carriers, with most/all of them operating to Australia. However, they tend to operate to SYD/MEL and even then not always daily. If passengers had easy connecting options on a single ticket (without having to go via SIN), I think that would be rather appealing.

if VA/DJ join ST, it means that codeshare with QF (AF, GA, VN, MU, etc) will be ended + cooperation with JQ as QF sub will be denied (especially VN, then JQ HK from MU will be denied too)
