New Policy
Qantas Lounges welcome you when travelling together with your family. In addition to your normal guest allowance you may also bring up to two children, between ages 3 and 17, into lounges operated by Qantas. There are no limitations for infants under 3 years of age. If you are travelling with more than two children, the Qantas lounge manager will try to accommodate them, subject to reviewing the space available in the lounge.

I think it has just formalised what was always a fairly flexible informal policy.

Great! I experienced that in an informal way.
The new policy for BA seems to be quite good as well. They have been very strict with Children (if over 2 they counted as guests).

Did I miss something, i.e. has BA also changed the rules, as they were/are a right pain in the arse (with regard to families)

Please remember that with extra privileges come certain responsibilities.
Keep your children off the computers when others need to use them.
The lounge is not a place for running about or being noisy.
Other people would like to share the food as well.
If there aren't enough seats your children should stand up so adults can sit.

Umm.... so you are suggesting that guests of members are only entitled to sit if all members who wish to sit are seated

Is this only for higher status QFF or everyone? I am silver and have not seen an email re this, as I'd be keen to sign the kids up.
If for everyone can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks

I never had a problem. I tried blagginh my way in to BNE DOM, with my sister, her two kids and my mother, and was told at reception "We would never deny a family access" - I think she presumed my sister was my wife.
Also got into SYD T3 when I was doing SYD-MEL, connecting onto QF9, and Mum and nephew (aged 6) were allowed in, they even let Mum pop out from time to time to get cancer (luckily she has since given up).
IME, they have always been pretty good at QF, unlike BA.

Never had any major problems myself when flying on QF. Latest was when my Mum, Dad and Sister were travelling together on QF. All three got into the First lounge with no issues.
When travelling domestically (4 of us), there never has been a problem getting into the J/C lounge (even since both myself and my sis have not been under 18 for a couple of years now). This has usually been off-peak though, and I guess a WP is allowed 2 guests anyway.
For entry into the F/C lounge, the rules have only been relaxed when flying QF (and not say on CX - which I think is fair enough). When flying CX once (4 of us) to PEK, we were directed to the J lounge, despite being nice and joking it was because QF do not fly to PEK :p - This was after the guy at the entrance even commented (in a joking way) "if you were flying with us we could let you all in". J lounge accepted us conditionally as a one off (we were flying in Y).

This NB QP member has received nothing.
Still smarting from the c**p experience in 2001 at the SYD International QP.
I just wanted to escort Wifey to a seat in the lounge (prob 4 mins total duration) and then take the kids out for a walk and junk food - but the dragon point blank insisted that I had to submit guest 2 passes for the kids aged 7 and 9 .... even those waiting behind me were shocked :mad::mad:
I, of course, submitted the passes - couldn't leave the kids unsupervised in the lounge entry area (could I?). I didn't stop on the way out 2 mins later to see if she was 'kind' enough to hand return the passes as we exited.
I'm just about over it.......

Does this apply to OneWorld status travelers as well? I'm traveling SIN to LHR in July in Premium Economy on QF1 with wife and two kids. I am AA Platinum (OneWorld Sapphire). According to the QF website my OneWorld status would grant myself and one guest access to the QF/BA operated business class lounge in Singapore. Anyone know if this new policy would let me bring in the whole family?
The website also says that this lounge has showers... anyone used them? I quite like the idea of a shower before getting on a midnight 14 hour flight.
Thanks

Yes the Lounge has showers, and yes I'm reasonably confident that you will be allowed into the lounge with your family.
Whilst the policy isn't specifically for OW elites, I have not seen families of any eligible OW elites turned away from the lounges.

Thanks. We'll try and see if we are admitted. I ask because I've been turned away by BA at LHR T4 in the past... arriving in on an AA flight, connecting to a BA short haul flight. AA flight was biz class (for all four of us) but connecting was economy. BA lounge would admit me and one guest based on Sapphire status, but would not admit whole family despite AA biz class arriving flight, they would only admit BA biz class arriving flights, or departing OneWorld biz class flights. I was very surprised and disappointed in BA, but they were following policy to the letter.

DAK That is wrong - if you are inbound premium cabin, you are entitled to lounge access on outbound flight, even if travelling in WT.
QF has always been really good with this, recognising that families should not be split up, and that it generates more in goodwill to keep a family together than it costs in services priovided. BA has adopted - wrongly - the opposite approach.

DJ offers double credits, QF responds with double credits. DJ gets some press about being family friendly, QF "announces" something that was always the case anyway. Good to see that even though he's no longer on the payroll, Borghetti is still setting the agenda at QF......
Remind me what they pay Joyce for, again?

Heck, back in 2007, I got myself, my mother, my sister and her two kids (aged 12 and 8) into both the SYD and BNE domestic QP's without them batting an eyelid, and that was as a PS/QP member.
I think Scotts comment was more about QF always reacting to what DJ are doing, instead of being the market leader, but then this is the way that QF has always been.

Would be nice if F lounges and domestic business lounges were excluded. Personally I hate traveling during school holidays when premium lounges are over run by children. I don't see what the issue would be with asking platinum FF not traveling in domestic business or First with using the QF club when traveling with children. Either that or if QF could put in place some quite zones for those of us who are not into being surrounded by kiddies.

Well they've toughen up since then.
IIRC, offers for DSC have been around for a good few years!
I'm glad that VA are shaking the established player - competition is always good for the customer.
