* fare does not apply for passengers from the US.
There don't seem to seem to be any T's and C's so can't really tell what is an isn't allowed but the use of the ''* fare does not apply for passengers from the US'' suggests to me that all other countries are included. Also doesn't say whether it applies to Y only or what fare buckets are included.
I imagine that taxes will have to be paid on the 'free ticket' but still makes this a decent offer.
But assuming you can depart from anywhere and in C then you can get bargains such as the following (discount included):
FRA-ADD-SEZ = $1430 in C, $697.5 in Y(W) (9610 miles)
HKG-BKK-ADD-SEZ = $1256 in C, $808.5 in Y(Q) (13,480 miles)
CAN-BKK-ADD-SEZ = $1408 in C, $761.50 in Y(V) (13,500 miles)
ARN-FCO-ADD-SEZ = $1355 in C, $689.5 in Y(L) (11,046 miles)
All these are based on their 'cloud 9 special fare' which I think books into D.
So 27,000 miles with M&M and a holiday in C to SEZ for HKG based FT'ers seems to be a good deal at 4.65c/mile.

I noted this promo on their African site but can't seem to get it to price properly.
Doesn't come up on ITA.
Fares ADD-SEZ are 850 USD in Y.
Fares DXB-ADD-SEZ are 630 USD in Y without the promotion.
I didn't see any terms or conditions either explaining it, other than no USA sales.

Actually the business fare ex-HKG is USD2444/HKD18978 for PAX1 and USD432/HKD3358 for PAX2.
It's a ropey ole 767 on the HKG route as far as I can see.
I just called their reservations office and the fare was confirmed as being valid ex-HKG.

200% on the business fares when crediting to A3
So you and your partner would get *G from either HKG or BKK in just one flight in C.

Nice. I'm based in SIN but I think it may be worth it to fly down to bkk just to do this MR. We seldom get that chance here (not with SQ at least)
Am I right to say that we have to call them up to book? Is there a way in which I can check for availability through their website?
Looking to travel from June 8th to anywhere about June 18th (flexible dates)
What will the total cost be for two passengers in C ex bkk?

After trying in vain to contact Ethiopian for information on the two for one Seychelles deal, I wrote the following letter to the company. Wonder whether others have had similar experiences:
This morning, I saw a special two for one deal from Bangkok to the Seychelles on Ethiopian. The deal was only available through your office. What could be simpler than just calling your office in Bangkok...Right? WRONG!
After hours of trying, I couldn't get through. I then wrote an email to your Bangkok office to ask them to call me. No one called. Once when I called, I was told in a recording to contact your international 24 hour service center. A long 800 number was rattled off faster than anyone could write down. However, I noticed on your site was such a 1800 number, so I tried to call it. I was greeted by a message that the number had been changed. However NO NEW NUMBER was given. I called up Bangkok AFTER business hours, and managed to write down the number given in the recording, after calling three times! I called the new 1800 number, but could not get through after many times.
IS THIS HOW ETHIOPIAN RUNS ITS AIRLINE? DO YOU CARE SO LITTLE FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS? I now harbor serious doubts about the competence of your staff and admnistration. Please call me tomorrow during Bangkok office hours, at +66 xxxxxxxxx.

For those booking this from Asia, up until the end of April, the CAN-ADD flights are on the 77L and go non-stop. Also now the PEK-ADD flights are on the 77L and go to 7 days a week starting June 15th. Unfortunately it looks like HKG keeps the 763 for the foreseeable future. They also service HGH with a stop in DEL if you're in the Shanghai area.

Strangely the flight departs 2 1/2 hours earlier from CAN than the current 77L flight but arrives in ADD only 1 hour 15 mins earlier. Is the 787 that much slower?

Just got a reply from the HKG office regarding this promotion. A few things to note:
- ticket has to be issued in person at their office;
- price shown online comes with a 5% discount, i.e., we need to pay 5% more when buying in person at their office;
- sales period is till May 31;
- all taxes and surcharges should be collected for the free ticket. I believe that means YQ needs to be collected.
I'm about to pull the trigger... Thanks OP.

I think that the $1430 is per person, which is one full fare C ticket for the first passenger + the taxes and fees for the second person. Add those to arrive at the total of ~$2900 for 2 people.

No ex-Japan, but ET does have fares ex-Korea. I played around with a lot of them, can route via PEK, HGH, HKG, CAN, BKK on various carriers depending on your alliance affiliation. I didn't see rules for this promo, so not sure if it has to be 100% on ET metal or not, but you should check about Korea, lots cheaper to get to ICN/GMP than the other jumping on points from NRT/HND/KIX

It's a 763 ex HKG, so older style biz seats on those. Some are modernized cabin, some are not. Better to take the train to Guangzhou depending on when you're going. Ex-CAN until the end of April or starting again in September will be much better, currently 77L, goes to 763 from May-September then 787 in September.

Sooo, tempted by this offer for a side trip from DXB that I am trying to put together, I called up ET, (New York Office) to get a quote.
Spent the next 40 minutes on hold waiting for an agent.
Confirmed that there is the promotion on and that the ticket office was aware about it.
Did confirm that sadly for my case, NO STOPOVERS PERMITTED.
Economy Promotion Fare (for 2):
DXB-ADD-SEZ - 3,600 AED ($980 USD or $490 USD each)
Regular Fare (2)- also subject to a promotion but not 2 for 1:
DXB-ADD-SEZ - 4,300 AED ($1,170 USD or 585 USD each)
Business Promotion fare
DXB-ADD-SEZ - 6,600 AED (1,800 USD or $900 USD each)
Regular Fare (2) "Cloud 9 Special"
DXB-ADD-SEZ - 10,700 AED (2,900 USD or 1,450 USD each)
When I asked if these fares qualified for mileage, I was told:
Ticket Agent: "Ahh, these are not available for reward..."
I answered: "No, I wanted to know what fare class do these book into? Are these flights eligible for Frequent Flyer points??"
Ticket Agent: "Ahh, they have not told us that information..."
Buyer beware!! Might not be the best for a mileage run.

HKG office just replied my email, saying that the promotion is not good for codeshare flights but ET metal only.

787 would be sweet, but are they sure that they will get a 787 by Sept, or will it get delayed again?

Even if there is no delay, I don't find their business class product impressive by looking at the pictures. http://www.ethiopianairlines.com/en/docs/B787/index.html

The dropdown list didn't show any ex-Korea, and none ex-Japan, so to joy here. On the other hand, we will be in SE Asia/OZ for an extended period, and without an expiration this might still get done.

Hm, bummer on the no US departures thing :( It doesn't seem to be worth the price of positioning, either.

That is the new seat!!!
Mostly they fly 767/757 with seats similiar to US domestic F and no personal IFE.
Also, anyone taking advantage of this fare should be aware that the transit in ADD means you need a yellow fever cert to enter SEZ.....even if you do not leave the airport.

Quick update:
Yesterday I contacted the ET's office in Madrid, Brussels and Frankfurt and received contradictory information about untill when this promo is valid: either June 30th ot July 20th.
I made a reservation for 2 pax BRU-ADD-SEZ in September (for ~$1400). Etkt must be issued before July 6th.

I thought this had to be booked until the end of April. What office made the reservation?

i just called NY and asked if i could still book this promo and she said yes????
However i didnt book another ticket.
If by any reason you get no reply, try the Hong Kong offices, as someone stated before in this thread that he/she had already tickets issued by them.
Good Luck!
