Hello! I'm about to pick up a privacy screen from 3M. Just curious to see if anybody uses something different. It seems like a reasonable price & an easy buy =)

Some previous threads that may help. Some of them are old, so the product may not be available anymore or may not work with your screen

I use one all the time. It can dim the front on view a little, but is excellent blocking from the sides.
Easy to fit and I wouldn't work in a public place without it.
Don't know about the pricing - mine was from the corporate web supplies store.

a nice plus with the 3M products is that they will send to you, for free, additional adhesive tabs to secure the privacy screen to the laptop.
my work laptop is provided by my company, so when it was replaced with a newer model with the same screen dimensions, i just ordered more tabs from 3M and was able to reuse the same privacy screen.

My parents have used them for years (both are 3Mers) and I recently added one. No complaints, yet. Solid product. The gold one is ugly, though.

I mostly use it especially while traveling on public transport and while long journeys. Although it gives a dimmer view but blocks the side views accurately.

These prices are pretty darn good -- and Amazon's the lowest price for most sizes. Just be careful about buying from some of the 3rd party resellers on Amazon. I once purchased a privacy filter from a no-name reseller and when it arrived, it was clearly a used filter, likely pulled from a recycled laptop.

Thanks everyone!
I've been using 3M filters for the last 5 years or so. For the past year I've been using the gold version, which I prefer over the standard gray version. I think the gold version provides better privacy, particularly on board aircraft.
My first gray filter had a problem where the layers of the filter started to separate in one corner, eventually getting larger over time. 3M replaced the filter, but they said it was not a common problem. Unfortunately, the same problem is starting on my gold filter, which is just over a year old.
I use 3M privacy filters on my laptop and my iPad. I wouldn't travel without them. The iPad protector is pretty hard to apply however.

I normally just pull up a really inappropriate picture when I notice the person next to me is watching me work on the plane.
Just kidding (but I have done it once with humorous results)
I use the 3m filter when traveling or in public.
I have noticed about the 3M grey screen is better with some vertical resolutions than others.
It's fine on 900 line screens, fine on 1080 (both Macbooks), but on 1050 (A Dell), I get fine horizontal lines - noticeable, but not unworkable. I've held the filter against other monitors and don't get the lines there either. Of course, laptop that gets the lines has to be the one I use most often. There may be a certain screen dpi where this is more noticeable.
Also, the 3M grey is good for side to side, but if someone is above and behind you, like an auditorium, your screen is easily readable. For those situations, get a pair of something similar to Sony Glastrons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasstron)
