I was looking at booking a trip to the USA with One world and I started to look at what extra baggage limit I would get with oneworld saphire and was stunned to evidently not get ANY extra luggage like a gold does with star alliance... can this really be?
I guess there is really no point in booking with OW as the benefit of extra 23 or 32 kilos with *A is HUGE on atlantic crossings :)
seems like this is a major downfall if this is the case or maybe I just didnt find the info. I have not noticed it before as I have flown only AY, but to the west coast of US I would have to fly OW too...

There is indeed no OW additional allowance for status
AA does grant free baggage to those holding OW status regardless
One ;) has to look up the terms and conditions of each oneworld member currently to see what baggage allowances are offered oneworld flyers and elites. oneworld is not exactly One World, any more than any other alliance is fully integrated with benefits for their airlines' members.

Star Alliance has their act together.
Also, the only time-saving cross-alliance elite benefit is J (or F, depending of level) check-in and early boarding. BA makes FasTrack lines available to its elites at LHR, but other oneworld elites are shut out from them based on status.
Unfortunately oneworld fails at what should be the #1 tenet to provide a truly seamless experience: Thou (airline) shall not treat oneworld elites any different than your own

I've also been wondering about the baggage rules lately. Can we try to compile a list? I'll start (R=Ruby, S=Sapphire, E=Emerald):
Finnair: All OW R/S/E can check in one extra bag (max 23 kg) on Finnair operated flights. (Finnair S/E can additionally check in a set of golf, skiing or diving equipment. Finnair R/S/E get the business class cabin allowance, i.e. one bag plus briefcase or laptop bag, max. 10 kg; this does not apply to other OW elites.)
BA: BA, IB and AA S/E can check in two bags (unless the cabin allowance is higher), and additionally the heavy bag charge is waived. No extra allowance for members of other OW programs. Everyone regardless of status has the same cabin allowance (one bag plus laptop or handbag, max. 23 kg, must be able to lift overhead unaided). This is for BA operated flights, not sure if it would also have to be BA ticketed.
Any others?

I can't find explicit rules that CX follows for R/S/E but it has been very generous in terms of offering additional baggage allowances to OW elites when flying with them. I used to be a QF SL - CX gave me additional 10kg (alight with their won SL allowance) when I flew in Y.
However when I became a CX SL later, QF refused to give me any additional baggage allowances when I flew in QF Y.

I believe AA is the only Oneworld carrier that grants the elite baggage allowance to all alliance elites. Other individual airlines have reciprocal agreements (BA/AA/IB) but this is independent of a OW alliance benefit.
Some other carriers are more likely to look the other way than others - IME CX is usually very generous, JL is hit or miss, and BA and QF typically give no leeway for elites. The rule on most is that you get the allowance for your ticketed cabin, no more.
I agree that an alliance-wide reciprocal baggage policy would be a nice benefit and would make the alliance seem more integrated, but each alliance offers its own benefits and drawbacks. OW may not have a reciprocal baggage agreement, but it is the only alliance with 3 tiers that allows top tier (Emerald) access to F check-in and lounges. For my travel patterns, that is a significantly more valuable benefit.
