Color coded availability is up. Also, we squashed several bugs relating to availability were squashed today. Results should be as accurate as they should be!

Pushed out a bunch of performance updates today as well as UI improvements. Results are shown in real-time as they are sent in. Also, a 6 day search on *A (which searches ANA/UA/Aeroplan) completes in less than 45 seconds!

This tool is awesome! I have been attempting to find a coach ticket for a friend from the US to Europe. It takes 3 segments. I've had no success on united.com; in fact, have been checking it near daily for over a month. I ran the search yesterday using Awardtravelr, and found roughly 8 alternatives for the 3 desired days of travel. I just called United Rez. Their system did not find the routing that came up on awardtravelr. However when I fed the agent the individual flights, every flight was available. My friend will be very happy.

Question: When I click "sort" and "duration", nothing happens (irrespective of which I click first). What should I be doing?

Thanks for the feedback! Glad that the tool helped. "sort" is actually not a button - but now that you mentioned it, it does look kinda like a button and it's actually clickable (even though it should not be).

To sort the results, just click on the particular dimension you want to sort it by, be it Takeoff, landing, duration or stops. Takeoff is basically the takeoff time, landing is the landing time, duration is the length of the itinerary and stops is the number of stops it makes.

This shows sorted by take-off time from earliest to latest.

http://www.juny4ng.com/sort-takeoff.PNG

Click on "take-off" again and it now shows take-off time from latest to earliest. Same goes for other buttons.

We released some UI changes today based on comments received. Make sure you press refresh a couple of times!

We now show each flight's class availability on the flight number itself without the need to expand the "show details" panel below. Enjoy.

Hi,

Thanks for the hard work! It's a wonderful tool that has helped me book plenty of flights.

Quick question: Why is it that in the new version we cannot search beyond 7 days forward? Is it possible to increase the search range?

jyflyer
Apr 5, 12, 10:06 pm
We're looking to increase it in the near future. The stress on the server is pretty high for large searches, so we're currently still load testing. What do you think is a good number for days forward?

Understandably. Hmm well I normally like to run searches up to a month because my travel dates are quite flexible so doing that actually allows me to gauge availability at one shot without having to search multiple dates!

That's one of the reason why I use and prefer award finder over award nexus and flisea.com actually - because those two only allow a limited search date (nexus obviously is only free until a certain point)...

Great tool, and the price is right. :)

One little nitpicky thing: you should change "Don't Matter" to "Doesn't Matter" in the "No. of Layovers" drop-down menu. Would be a little more professional. ;)

Ran tool on several browsers. This is not a criticism just personal observations as applications function differently on the various browsers and this appears to be in the initial development stage.

Google Chrome 18.0.1025.151: Application seems to be optimal in this browser. All options appear to be correctly presented and function as expected. Very quick loading of information. "Passenger Number" has scroll wheel and "Multiples Days" scroll wheel has + and - as an option on the "Search" page. "From"and "To" show complete airport information when entering 3 letter codes. Sorting is very fast, almost instantaneous.

MS IE9: "From" and "To" do not show full airport information when airport codes are entered. "Multiple Days" can only set to days ahead . Processing is very slow. On initial activation of "Search",the next screen does not appear to be actually searching. Reloading then activates the "Search".
For the "Sort" options there is not a graphical indication that anything is actually happening. Processing of the various options is extremely slow, in fact at times locks up the browser.

FireFox 11.0: Again, "From" and "To" do not show full airport information when airport codes are entered. "Multiple Days" can only set to only days ahead.
On"Search" the processing bar is shown and processing is very fast. If I attempted to compare to Chrome it would be subjective so I will not.
On presentation of the "Search" results, the multiple pages information is over written in the flight information line(Flight, Date, From-To,Duration). I waited 5 minutes but none of the "Sort" options appeared to function in this browser.

I think this is a great tool. The graphical user interface is excellent being clear in function and easy to use especially when used in the Chrome browser. As it now the functionality and layout is better and more professional than I have seen in several business oriented sites.

Laptop Information; OS Win7 Home Premium, iCore7, 8GB ram,1GB dedicated graphical memory, Internet at 15MPS.

Thanks for your effort,

I'm searching for 2 F seats on BA, PHX-LHR on 9/9/12.

This tool shows available 2 seats in F; 2 seats in J.

I was excited, as BA.com shows no availability.

So I checked Award Nexus -- no availability.

So I called BA -- no availability.

First day that BA shows availability is 9/13, which is what I can see on ba.com and was confirmed by the agent.

Thanks for your feedback and taking the effort to test on various browsers. We're aware of some of these issues and are working to resolve them asap. The aim is to make it cross-compatible across all 3 main browsers (Chrome, FF2, FF3, IE8, 9, 10 beta) as well as have a mobile version.

If I search SYD-SIN on Oneworld I get the following result:

None of the 3 QF flights in this itinerary offer a First Class cabin.
I don't know that the BA search engine is a good site to use for your purpose as I think it returns that a First Class award can be used even if there are no segments in F solely because you can pay for a First Class Award but fly in a lower class if you choose

Searching on the QF site shows only the domestic segments are available in business:

Oneworld search has been updated. We resolved the problems with the inconsistent results due to a bug in how we obtain the data. What's reflected on our site now will be consistent with what BA is showing.

For example: A search for LHR to PHX on 9-23-2012 for 2 pax on Awardtravelr would show 3 flights:

BA289 in Y
BA193 -> AA1955 in Y and then F
BA193 -> AA1875 in Y and then F

If you do a search on BA's site for the flights, you would see these results:

BA289 in World Traveller (Y) on LHR to PHX
BA193 -> AA1955 in Y and then F (via Partner Search for the same flight and
specifying F)
BA193 -> AA1875 in Y and then F (via Partner Search for the same flight and specifying F)

Searching for the flight in C yields no results except for BA289 in Y. Our site aims to automate this process for you which is useful for larger searches such as SIN-LHR which may yield many flights especially when you are looking at partner flights too:

An example:

http://www.juny4ng.com/ba-1.PNG

Thanks guys, for using Awardtravelr and providing valuable feedback. As with these tools, accurate information is of utmost importance and we're always striving towards that.

Just tried searching for Award travel on Star Alliance - looks like you have the same problem that United does - phantom seats showing available.

Specifically looking at LH-417 F showing available on IAD-FRA 5/26/12. United engine shows that same space but if you check ANA or call United those seats don't actually exist.

Great tool otherwise,
Thanks

Heads up that United.com is showing false positives for LH F availability. A search on Awardtravelr showed LH F for two separate flights. United agent agreed that their website showed the flights but they were not available. This issue has been discussed quite a bit in the United forum. Unfortunately, when it comes to LH availability, it's important to check ANA.

great little tool, but I noticed a bug with the dates...
It shows 2012 Days of the Week (aka Saturday) for the 2013 values...

Other than that, great little tool!!

Great tool!

First, praise:
-OW and *A functions are great!
-UI is perfect
-Runs smoothly, quickly
-Fast, easy to use

Downside:
-With very few exceptions, basically has zero functionality for ST. There are so many partner flights but only two or three of them show up (regardless of what else is available). I understand it's because those other partners don't show themselves on the AF site (or on DL either), but nonetheless - it's still slightly frustrating.

Other than that one negative point, I'd say this is among the greatest inventions since the Sham-Wow :) Seriously though, I love it - the website, not Sham-Wow :)

Try as I might, I can't get it to work.

I use IE7 at work, and well, I can search but I get no results at all.

Without knowing what steps were taken and what the screen presented,it is difficult to know what "I can't get it to work" means and what might be the problem.

I did notice with IE9 sometimes a message is displayed at the bottom of the page indicating that:
"Internet Explorer blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate errors"
Clicking "Show Content" sometimes presents the retrieved information.
At other times after inputting the search criteria a search bar is again presented with the 6 fields blank.
Sometimes clicking the browser "refresh" option initiates the search and sometimes it doesn't.
Maybe this is the problem that "Mary2e" is experiencing...

FireFox-11 and Google Chrome-18 function correctly.

It's really a constant struggle with IE - for one, we test actively with IE ourselves, but that's limited to IE 7-9. Our stats show that we don't get a ton of IE users as well (mostly FF and Chrome) so we don't get much feedback from IE users. Providing us abit more details so we can replicate the problem would be great! Ultimately, the tool is for everyone, so we _want_ to support all major browsers. We push out changes pretty fast (usually within a day) so if there was any compatibility problems, it would usually be gone the next.

I was trying for EWR-CDG initially, and then decided to try something easy that I knew was available - EWR-MCO on UA

The dates I checked were 6/21-25 for 1 seat. Nothing popped up for any class of service, and the website had several flights available.

I just wanted to be a bit more clear with my IE7 issue - I'm using it at work and I can enter the search requirements and press search - but nothing comes up at all - not even the filters on the left hand side. It just continues to say it's searching.

On my home machine using IE8, search works - I get the filter box on the left, but it does not return any flights.

Could any of the results be construed as ads? My company actively blocks anything that remotely looks like an ad, and at home, I've altered my hosts file to block most of them.

jyflyer
Apr 18, 12, 3:39 pm
My guess is that your corporate network might be blocking certain ports which we require to be open for the search to work. To provide real-time search results as well as for the app to be more responsive, we use a technology called WebSockets to communicate with your browser. In our experience, we've seen some firewalls block that but most are fine with it. It's a pretty prevalent technology nowadays so it really shouldn't be blocked.

We're currently working on a fall-back version which will work in the event that there is a firewall. I'm using IE9 now and EWR-MCO does show results on a *A search. I suspect it might be a one-off issue or we might have been upgrading our servers at that time. Let us know if it still dosen't work today!

I tried again at home using IE8. The search completed - I received the filter boxes on the left, however, I didn't get any available flights for Star Alliance.

I searched 6/21 for 4 days EWR-MCO. I double checked an there is availability - F outbound and Y return. Would zone alarm effect this?

I guess I may need to install a different browser.

Google Chrome appears to be the fastest.

I was looking to book a RTW trip. The tool worked great finding segments all the way east through to Seoul, ICN. But it shows no availability out of Seoul? Checking the same route to several destinations, HNL, MSP, etc. shows availability for awards on Delta site, but nothing on Awardtravelr. These are for around 1/31/13.

This site sounds like a great tool, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having problems. I cant get it to do anything at all really. It just sits on the Search in Progress... screen. I've left if for half an hour and it does nothing. I tried Chrome 19, IE 9, FF 10 (yes I know that's out of date) on two different ISPs - one of which I'm the firewall admin for so I know nothing's being blocked.

I started searching YVR-AKL on OW, then I tried YVR-HKG, YVR-LHR, LHR-JFK, LHR-SEA, etc etc On *A too. Tried dates ranging from next month to next year. The site just does nothing. Search in Progress... is all I ever get.

I can see the search queries updating on the home page so apparently it works for others, but I have no idea what's going on for me.

Looking to book travel 12/31 or 1/1 TLV - BOS for 4 seats. Tool shows 4 seats on LX 257 connecting on LX52. USAir states no seats on LX52.

Any idea why there is a discrepancy? As an aside the ANA tool shows the same availability on LX.

Today, we're letting flyer-talkers try out our new tool - http://routegen.awardtravelr.com.

The tool is still in alpha development, but you get the rough idea. We basically want to generate routes based on airline timetable so award searchers can get a good idea of what's out there and what to search for. In the future, this will be integrated into AwardTravelr.

Try it out and let me know your thoughts! Keep in mind that the UI is just temporary and a new and better UI will launch in due time. Thanks! There are a few issues we're aware of:

- You may see some repeat routes due to the schedule we load - for the entire year. There are flights with the same number, but in actual fact, they are different flights for summer/winter seasons.
- The schedule is not the most up to date. This is based off an early 2010 schedule.

We're looking to get the schedule updated, include the OW/ST alliances in future releases.

Is this tool incapable of searching for awards originating from North America to Asia? At least any and all combinations I tried on SkyTeam originating from major cities like NYC, LAX, and DTW going to Japan and China destinations all route THROUGH Europe.

Awards don't work that way; you can't book a "connection" in Europe going to Asia without paying essentially double the award amount.

Am I missing something here? None of the Delta flights even show up.
I tried something as simple as DTW-PEK or JFK-NRT but they all seem to want to route DTW-CVG-PEK or some ridiculous combinations like that.

Was looking for coach award to get me from HKG to WAS with a fair amount of restrictions on my part. Was not able to find any suitable award flights using united.com or aa.com or their respective CSRs. beta.awardtravelr.com showed that there were no OneWorld awards on the date that I wanted for a variety of routings. However, the site did show availability via Star Alliance. Another call to the United CSR and I was able to walk them through the routing and indeed coach Saver award seats were available for a desirable time, on the desired date, to the desired destination, with a reasonable routing and great timing.

LAX-PVG on 10/5/2012 will try to connect at CDG on AF.

Months later and still no public feedback from the owners regarding the Oneworld search problems.
Considering they ask for donations which some people might give only to find the tool doesn't do what it promises is a bit below the belt. :td:

Until they sort the problems out the site should be closed....or at the very least users should be made aware that the tool doesn't fully function.
