Just wondering if anyone has went to the soft opening of the Revel AC tonight?
Wondering if it lives up to the hype? Ok, it probably doesn't but how close does it come?

Its nice, very nice. But if you spend that much money on anything you can make it look nice. I like the non-smoking aspect (hope it will last).
Long term we will see. Right now they are the new hot thing and can be for a number of years but at best they are #2 in a dying market. They are open full time, i stopped by for the soft opening but haven't been there since its been open.

Most of the Jitney routes now pass the Revel--so you don't have to do much walking to get there.

Doubt the no smoking lasts long at all. They tried the no smoking in AC not too long ago and the losses were large enough for them to quickly reverse it.
As for long term, doesn't look like the greatest investment. When NY shortly passes the legalization of some full service casinos, it will likely be destroyed.

The Casinos had smoking in large areas already; the NJ smoking ban, was to have applied to Casinos as well--since PA did allow smoking, they got the ban partially rescinded. Revel is advertising itself as NO smoking, and so will attract people (like me:)) who don't smoke, and don't want smoke from nearby areas to drift so that it becomes annoying. [In many of the casinos which have smoking and non-smoking on the same floor, there are NO barriers separating them.:td:]
PS: Caesars second floor is NON-smoking, the first floor is mixed; the second floor seems much busier than the first--is this because of the NON-smoking?

Fact is, they banned all smoking at a point and the Casino's were able to show enough loses to overturn it. If a player smokes and can't smoke at a casino, they are losing money on those hands when he has to get up to even go for a smoke. You're isolated example doesn't prove true in the big picture. Only time will tell who is right.

I doubt Revel will overturn their decision to stay as a non-smoking property. From what I heard from my friends who work there, they are marketing themselves as a resort instead of a casino. There will be no tier system in the casino as well as comps so definitely not worth it for those who gamble a lot.
Not worth going to the property until they the actual Opening Day which is Memorial Day weekend.

I also heard there would be no tier levels. They think they can appeal the crowd who (a) doesn't smoke and (b) doesn't gamble so heavily that they get VIP treatment. We'll see if it works!

I went to the revel for the first time last night, and it is nice. So I hear there's no tier program but what about points earned? How does the points system work? Will you ever be offered comps for romms as like ballys/ceasars does?

No, as I mentioned in an earlier post there will be no comps according to my friends who work there. Instead, you will earn 'Resort Dollars' which can be earned from reserving a room and most likely restaurants. Their primary goal is to be a real resort instead of a casino.
Personally, I think this isn't the greatest business model especially due to the location. However, only time will tell?

In the summer months AC as a resort locale is a good idea. How many people go to AC in (say) February, when the temp is 5 degrees F--unless they are gambling?

Not many. That's why some hotels like the Chelsea which is a boutique hotel closed Su-W due to expenses but barely any occupancy. I go to school a few minutes away so know how it's like. The casinos do get good occupancy due to concerts and DJs on the weekends especially Harrah's. When "The Pool" didn't exist at Harrah's it catered towards the older folks but nowadays it's a whole new story.

Revel is *beautiful* and sparkly.
But, it's not focusing on the casino customers.
No high limit room, no tiered status, no VIP lounges.
Lots of talk in the Borgata high limit room. Many players went to check it out...... but....
Too much mystery about the (Revel) casino awards strategy. I overheard my host sum it up rather succinctly to a Borgata Titanium Client : "You have no status, no high limit, no lounge and no buffet at Revel, they also want you to use your points for rooms/suites." I imagine that big players will (eventually) be getting room/RFB offers; but, right now, things are a bit loopy.
Guess we'll have to wait for the official opening. ;)

They seem to think that people will come to Atlantic City for a getaway that involves something other than gambling. For the life of me, I can't figure out how that will succeed. I predict that they will buckle and become more focused on winning over gamblers. That, in turn, will likely cause one or two gambling halls to shut down.

I'd love to go to a full service resort that is relatively close to home.
BUT, I looked at the prices for this property and services and determined it's cheaper to fly/stay at just about any other resort than to take the hour drive to AC. Rooms near $500 a night? Seriously?

But if you fit, say, 10 people into a room, $50/night isn't that expensive.:D:D:D
[I stay at Borgata (comped rooms), but I've noticed, when a group of people are heading home, many of them have sleeping bags--so I assume several are staying in the same room--probably 5.]

I seem to recall you enjoy going to Hawaii. Please don't tell me it's cheaper for you to go there!

+1 I'd rather go elsewhere and earn miles/points than pay ~$500 for two nights due to the two-night minimum.

Sometimes it is. Next trip, which will be for 2 weeks will be nearly free (and that includes flying F) - all we have to pay for is food & amusements. Miles/points covered everything else.
Generally speaking, if you know how to do Hawaii, it can be less expensive than many other resort locations.

Too bad, because I'd love to go to a resort, stay 1 night, use the spa, pool, and have a nice meal before driving home the next morning.
There is no way I would drop $1k for a room, plus the other costs, to go to ACY for about 36 hours.

Did they buckle or is it too soon to know?
For me, I am not much of a gambler. Few dollars here and there between black jack and roulette.
I have gone to AC for the following:
1. The boardwalk
2. Red Door Salon - yes, me and my honey ;)
3. Golfing

They sent me an offer to stay with them as a gambler. I have no Revel card but play at the Borgata and Encore.
No high limit room, no tiered status, no VIP lounges.
This has definitely changed. They have tier levels now and even a tier matching program.

Yep, that post was pre-tier status at REVEL.
I am officially a lowly Level-3.

Things are changing, I stayed there on a comp Wednesday night and based on the offers screen on the kiosk I have more free nights coming. Nice place but food is expensive and they still have issues (multiple malfunctioning check-in/check out kiosks and lack of good signage as to where the rooms are to name a few). Also they want $179 for a midweek night in october. Hopefully things work out.

I was in AC this past weekend and spent some time at Revel. Really nice place and still no smoking indoors at all. One of the only Casinos I could find that had 10 min bj so that was a positive. Food was really good and the deli where they make everything in front of you but very pricey. Poker room was was off and at first a trouble to find. I would go back for sure but then again I did not book a room just hung out all weekend. It's way better than every other casino on the boardwalk.

On Saturday, 9/1/12, I went to the Revel to sign up for a casino card (and from my Seven Star status in Harrah's I got Level 4^.)
(1)From the outside you can see that the casino is still under construction.
(2)The interior is very nice--but it was not too busy (with slot players).
(3)Level 3 and Level 4 can redeem $10 of casino points for $30 in food credit, and based on the previous post might be a big plus with this perk.
(4)To sign up for a casino card I was directed to a Level 4 desk, but they had to hunt around for literature describing the program (and benefits)--I would assume that this stuff should not be hidden away. The card has 4 numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and your level is bolded--if I'm going to get status, it should be more than bolded type (Borgata has a black card, Harrah's a distinctive looking one for 7*).
On my next trip to AC I'll spend more time "slotting" to get a better feel of things.

Can you see your offers on their website. I tried but don't see where.
Harrah's, Borgata and MGM all have websites which allow you to access your account.
