Practical Travel Safety Issues - TSA indifference on JFK Air Train

So why do we have the TSA? This evening I arrived at Howard’s Beach and transferred to the air train so I could get to my hotel shuttle bus. There were two TSA clerks in uniform waiting for the train. When it arrived the station staff realised there was an abandoned bag and started screaming at the departing people asking ‘who left a bag behind’.

No one collected it so everyone was told to get off the train. The TSA clerks walked away and started whinging about the delay. Eventually the next train came and we boarded it.

My question: Why didn’t the TSA clerks handle the situation? If it was dangerous enough to cancel the train shouldn’t something have been done to ensure our safety? Anything? Or was it better handled by the highly trained train staff who just cancelled the train and let us wait beside it until the next train came along?

Now I get to experience the joys of USA domestic flying in the morning.

They would have done the same thing the station staff did, it's not like they would have looked inside and tried to figure out what it was or removed it without having it checked first.

They probably called the NYPD or port authority police to come with the dog to see if it was something to worry about or not.

If the station staff was not there and they saw it and just walked away that would be a different story, but in this case, the station staff was handling it, there was nothing for the TSA to do.

The TSA are window dressing, security theatre, etc.

As many people have pointed out before, the TSA is a threat to security. They help cover up their own when they are involved in crime (see multiple example in New York alone where the TSA employees were masterminds of theft rings) they can and have been bought off to help others smuggle contraband though the check point (recent examples in Buffalo and Miami) and they seem to be a magnet for pedophiles and other sexual perverts who enjoy seeing children naked or sexually assaulting others without the threat of retaliation (see multiple arrests around the country in the past year for assault and child pornography)

When there is a real security threat the TSA calls the real LEOs and let's them handle it.
